I woke up to the feeling of a little body jumping up and down on top of me.

"Mama mama, wake up! It's time to wake up!"

Groaning, I turned over onto my back and felt my daughter fall off me, landing in the empty space next to me.

"Dear, what time is it..."

I grumbled sleepily, although I knew it was probably early seeing as Ava's internal clock doesn't care that I'm old and need sleep.

"Time to get up!"

She hopped on me again and my eyes finally opened as I fought for breath after she put all of her 20 pounds onto my lungs.

"Fine, fine, you little gremlin."

After scooping her up, I got us both ready for the day and did her hair into two cute little pig tails.

Once I was happy with both our appearances, I picked her up and we headed down to the lobby so I could make her up some breakfast.

That's when I heard what sounded like Vaggie fussing at someone, but that's not an uncommon occurrence.

Rounding the corner, I was able to see that I was correct, and the scene before me was of sir Pentious on the ground, guarding his eggs while Vaggie nagged him about them being too destructive.

They then proved her point by blowing a hole in the ceiling.

Shaking my head I bounced Ava gently and took her to the kitchen, listening as the sounds of arguing faded behind me.

"I want pancakes, mommy."

"Pancakes?"

I hummed as I set her on the counter and poked her in the belly, making a fart noise with my tongue.

She giggled and grabbed my hand.

"Yea, and can I have stwabewwies too?"

I nodded and kissed her tiny fingers before letting go of her so I could grab the pancake mix from the pantry.

"Of course you can. Do you wanna help me mix?"

I could practically see her vibrating from excitement after that question.

"Yes!"

Chuckling, I grabbed a bowl and got started pouring everything together.

I grabbed her a little spoon and one for myself before holding the bowl so we didn't make too much of a mess. It's good for her to learn early how to do some things for herself.

Just as we finished up mixing, my smile faded when I felt the tingle of static in the air, the hair on the back of my arms raising up.

I let out a quiet sigh before smiling at Ava and taking the bowl and spoon over to the stove where I'd put a pan to preheat.

"Good morning, Alastor."

He hadn't said anything, but I knew he was there.

"Good morning, darling."

I didn't acknowledge him with a glance, instead treating him the way he deserves to be treated.

Like a stranger.

That is, until he appeared right next to me and leaned uncomfortably into my space.

"What're we making this fine morning, my dear? Pancakes?"

"Obviously."

I growled through my teeth and glared at him.

"Go away."
