Chapter 2

ROAD/INT. CAR - MORNING
[Hope rides shotgun in a black SUV. Alaric drives. She steals a glance at Landon in the mirror. He's next to a sleeping Rafael, sipping on a hot coffee. Recovering from the shock.
Her eyes meet Landon's. She smiles at him reassuringly. Audrey notices it and rolls her eyes.]
"I don't like this!" Said Klaus. Hayley shooks her head amused at Klaus.
Alaric: So how do you know each other?
Hope: He used to serve me milkshakes at the Mystic Grill.
Landon: Peanut Butter Blast. Whipped cream on the bottom. [Audrey narrows her eyes at Landon suspiciously.]
Audrey: Why do you remember it? It was two years ago.
"That's kinda creepy." Said Davina. Klaus like past Audrey looks at Landon suspiciously.
Landon: (cont'd) We danced once.
Hope: We tried. [Another brief flash of them, youthful and caught up in each other as they dance in the town square.]
"You were there, you know? You let them dance." Said Audrey to Klaus. Klaus looks shocked, so do others.
"I did what?" Said Klaus.
"I was surprised, too." Admitted Hope.
Hope: And then you moved away.
Landon: And flash forward to when your sister made a door blow off its hinges with her brain. Feel like explaining that? [Hope goes silent. Alaric intervenes.]
Alaric: We'll explain everything. We're almost there. [The car passes a sign --
Welcome to mystic falls, Virginia.]
LONG DRIVEWAY - DAY
[The car pulls into a driveway. A massive iron gate opens to allow it entry. A bronzed sign reads The Salvatore School.]
"Wait! I didn't notice it before. Is this my house?!" Said Damon.
"Our house." Corrected Stefan.
"What did you do it to it?!" Said Damon to Stefan accousingly.
"Caroline and Alaric opened the supernatural school in it." Said Audrey.
Landon: Where are we?
Alaric: Somewhere safe.
"I wouldn't be on it." Said Audrey.
"What do you mean?" Asked worried parents.
"You will see." Answered Audrey.
[The scenery goes by. The land is endless and beautiful. A barn with horses. A soccer field. A creek.]
Lizzie Saltzman: Welcome to The Salvatore School.
SALVATORE SCHOOL - DRIVEWAY - DAY
[Lizzie and Josie Saltzman (aka the Saltzman Twins, 16) greet Rafael brightly as he steps from the car.]
"Are they..." Said Caroline.
"Your daughters. Lizzie and Josie." Said Hope. Caroline looks in awe at her daughters.
Lizzie: We're your tour guides.
Josie: I'm Josie.
Lizzie: I'm Lizzie. Sisters.
Josie: Twins.
Lizzie: Fraternal, obvi.
"They are just like you, blondie." Said Damon. Caroline smiles.
Alaric: Rafael, go ahead with the girls while I talk to Landon. [Lizzie and Josie each take an arm. As they pass Audrey and Hope, they smile at them sweetly.]
Lizzie/Josie; Morning, Hope. Morning, Audrey.
Hope&Audrey: (fake sweet) Morning, girls. [Lizzie turns to Rafael.]
Lizzie: More like Despair...
Audrey: After seeing you? Definetly. [Lizzie glares at Audrey.]
"Seems like rivaly continues." Said Stefan.
"They started it. You should really teach your daughters to not bully other because of their jaelousy and insecurities." Said Audrey to Caroline.
"Audrey!" Said Hope.
"Whaat? They spread rumors about you, invited whole school except you on their birthday party and so on.." said Audrey. Mikaelsons look angry.
"I'm sorry." Said Caroline, disappointed about her daughers' behaviour.
"You are apologisying to th--" Said Damon.
"Silencio." Said Audrey and Damon can't speak.
"Finally! I swear his voice gave me a headache." Said Audrey and lean into Klaus. Klaus looked surprised, but let her. Mikaelsons smiled at Klaus.
Alaric: All of you. Behave.
Lizzie/Josie: (all innocence) Love you, Dad. [Audrey rolls her eyes at them. Landon stands there, taking this all in. Alaric looks to him.]
Alaric: So. Let's get started.
Audrey: (to Rafael) I don't have nerves to deal with nightmare twins. I'll talk to you later. [Rafael looks flustered. Lizzie glares at Audrey.]
"Why would you talk to him later?" Narrowed his eyes Klaus.
"I was Alpha of the school pack. So i had to talk to him and introduce him to pack for him to join." Explained Audrey.
"You are Alpha?" Asked Hayley proudly.
"Was. We already finished school. But Hope is Alpha now. She is Alpha of the crescent pack." Said Audrey.
"You are?" Asked Klaus proudly. Hope nodded.
"She is very good one at that." bragged Audrey. Hope blushed a little.
"Audrey is queen of New Orleans." Said Hope to get attention away from herself. Klaus looks even more proud of his little girls.
"You are?" Asked surprised Elijah.
"Yep. I rule the New Orleans. And since i'm a Tribrid, i don't represent any communities." Said Audrey.
"But Hope does." Pointed out Marcel.
"Yes, but Hope isn't the one who is in charge of city. I already have an advantage of being Tribrid, Which means it doesn't creat image that one fraction is ruling others like it did with you and dad. I practically represant equality, but if i chose a side then i will lose that advantage." Said Audrey.
"You are very smart." complimented Elijah.
"Thank you, uncle Elijah." Said Audrey. Elijah smiles happily at being called uncle.
"You would still be subjective. Your sister represents wolves." Said Damon.
"Let's see. Vincent, who is my cousin's father and bassicaly my uncle is in charge of witches." Said Audrey.
"Cousin? But... Freya." Realised Kol.
"I- it's impossible." Said Freya.
"You and aunt Keelin, your wife, decided you wanted a child and chose Vincent as father." Said Hope.
"No, i wouldn't have. After.. i wouldn't" said Freya.
"But you did and you are very good mother and wife. Trust me." Said Audrey. Freya still looks shocked. Mikaelsons look happy and congulate her. Caroline and Stefan congulate her, too.
"Anyway, back to Nola leadership, Marcel represents Vampires and he is my uncle step-brother." Said Audrey.
"Uncle step-brother?" Asked confused Marcel.
"Well, dad adopted you, so you are my step brother and aunt Bex married you, which makes you also my uncle." Said Audrey.
"I- i- i married Rebekah?" Asked Marcel.
"You did. And dad, don't start. You already approved." Said Hope. Marcel looks even more shocked at that.
"And ok, i don't have family member in human fraction, but in every other fraction i do, so they can't blame me for being subjective." Finished Audrey.
"I'm sure you are the best rulers." Said Klaus. Audrey and Hope smiled.
SALVATORE SCHOOL - GREAT ROOMM - DAY
[Hope leads Landon into an opulent great room where students of all ages mingle, socialize and study. Alaric follows.]
Alaric: I'm curious -- were you aware of us when you lived here?
Landon: I knew Hope went to some fancy boarding school. People in town said it was for troubled rich kids. I see the rich part is true.
"More like troubled." Said Kol.
[As he says this, they pass a young girl practicing a levitation spell with her schoolbooks. Landon meets her eyes. She gets flustered. Her books fall to the floor with a thud. Hope hides a grin. Audrey looks bored.]
Landon: Nobody ever mentioned that anyone in here could do that.
SALVATORE SCHOOL - HEADMASTER'S OFFICE - DAY
[They enter the headmaster's office. Rich with leather and dark woods. Alaric indicates Landon should take a seat. A name plate reads, Dr. Alaric Saltzman, Headmaster.]
Alaric: No one in Mystic Falls knows much about us. We blend in just enough. Participate, contribute just enough. It keeps people from asking too many questions.
Landon: (getting to it) What is there to know, exactly? [Hope steals a glance at Alaric. Wondering how he'll answer.]
Alaric: Well, I used to have a whole speech carefully unpeeling the layers of mystical history, but it turns out most people have read Harry Potter and are usually cool with me skipping the tee up.
"Real magic is nothing like Harry Potter!" Said Davina.
Audrey: Seriously? That's how you explain?
Landon: (trying to keep cool) You're a school for magic.
Alaric: We're a school for the supernatural, which covers a lot of territory. Everyone here has something that makes them special in ways that the outside world wouldn't understand.
[Landon looks at Hope.]
Landon: So what are you? [Hope looks uncomfortable. Audrey eyes Landon distastefully.]
"I don't like him." Said Klaus.
"You have mentioned." Said Freya.
Audrey: It's none of your business. (To Hope) come on! We have to go to class. [Hope and Audrey turn to leave. Landon stops Hope.]
Landon: No, no....
Audrey: (glaring) Take your hands off her!
"Good job, princess." Said Klaus to Audrey. Audrey and Klaus high-five. Others look amused.
[Landon lets go of Hope hurriedly.]
Landon: Sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick, but -- (to Alaric) I don't know you. (to Hope) And though the image of you whammying a Priest is still fresh, I need you here. Tell me what all that was in the church last night?
"Poor boy. He got dragged into all this." Said Caroline.
Hope: What do you think it was?
Landon: Well... as best as I can reason, either I've lost my mind or werewolves are real. [Her silence confirms what he's saying. He reels.]
"He caugh up quickly." Said Stefan.
Landon: That is --- beyond insane. How is it even possible?
Alaric: Long story involving an ancient vengeful witch and a bloodline curse. We teach it in Origin of the Species, grade six. [Alaric sneaks a worried glance toward Hope and Audrey.]
Landon: (shell-shocked) In sixth grade at my school we learned the state capitals.
Hope: They teach that too. [A small grin flashes across her face. Lighting up her eyes. Landon stares a beat too long. There's a spark there. Audrey looks at Landon annoyed. Hope and Landon's moment doesn't go unnoticed by Alaric, who switches gears.]
Mikaelson men glare at Landon.
Alaric: I have some questions about Rafael.
Landon: Like what?
Alaric: Let's start with who he killed recently. [Landon stares at him in shock. Audrey raises her eyebrow.]
"That's not how you ask!" Said Hayley.
"What's wrong with him?!" Said Caroline.
"He spends too much time with Damon." Said Stefan.
"Hey!" Said Damon.
SALVATORE SCHOOL - MEETING HALL
[Rafael, discombobulated, is led through the sprawling Meeting Hall. Stained glass. Crystal chandeliers. Warm, dark woods.]
Josie: Everybody gets along with everybody here. For the most part.
Lizzie: The wolves are pretty cliquey. They like to hang with their own --
Josie: -- in defiance of the school's commitment to inclusiveness.
Lizzie: That's why we volunteered to be your guides. To give you a good witch welcome before your hairier brethren corrupt you.
"God, she is so annoying. She is, at least, little better now." Said Audrey.
"She isn't annoying!" Defended Caroline.
"Is there anyone who you don't hate?" Said Hope to Audrey.
"Only few deserves that privilage." Said Audrey. Hope rolls her eyes amused.
[They stop outside a classroom door.]
Josie: That's our librarian, Mr. Williams. He's subbing for our Chemistry of Magic teacher who accidentally incinerated himself with hellfire last week.
"Hellfire?" Said confused people.
"What kind of school allows hellfire?" Said Stefan.
"What kind of idiot practises something that dangerous around children?!" Said Freya.
Lizzie: Burned all the hair off his body but didn't leave a scar.
SALVATORE SCHOOL - CLASSROOM - DAY
[We see Dorian Williams Two Latin-ish phrases on the board. Phesmatos is lucas odoray. Phesmatos is lucas adoray.]
Dorian: This language was carefully crafted over centuries. You might think you can play fast and loose with the syllables, but you would be very wrong about that, because otherwise a love charm becomes a what? (calling on a student) Penelope. Show us.
[A spirited young witch, Penelope Park launches into a chant. Outside, Lizzie nudges Josie.]
Lizzie: She who shall not be named...
Josie: (elbowing her) Talking about her gives her power.
Rafael: Who are you talking about?
Lizzie: Josie's evil ex.
"Penelope wasn't evil. In fact, she was too good for Josie." Said Audrey.
"She was manipulative bitch." Said Hope.
"She was the only person who put Lizzie in her place except me. She loved Josie more than anything. Everything she did was for Josie. Josie broke up with her, because Penelope didn't let Lizzie walk over Josie. It was so unfair." Said Audrey. Caroline frowns at that.
[Inside the class, a small ball of light magically appears in Penelope's cupped hands. Spinning. She raises her hands and, with a seductive wink in Josie's direction.]
Penelope: Phesmatos is lucas odoray
[The ball explodes like a smoke bomb. Gassing the class.]
Dorian: A stink spell. That's right.
[As he laughs, the students protest, gagging.]
Lizzie: C'mon, we'll show you the turret. It's where the seniors go to smoke.
Rafael: What do they smoke? Eye of newt?
Josie: Weed. [Rafael finally lets a smile loose as they drag him away.]
Caroline gave disapproving look.
"You won't smoke!" Said Klaus to Hope and Audrey.
SALVATORE SCHOOL - HEADMASTER'S OFFICE - DAY
Landon: Why would you ask me that?
[Landon glares at Alaric, Audrey and Hope, taken aback.]
Alaric: The werewolf gene lies dormant until its carrier takes another human life. If Rafi triggered his curse, it's because he killed someone. We don't accept coldblooded killers into our program. [Audrey glares at Alaric.]
"Can't he be less of a dick? That's not how you talk to child!" Said Caroline.
Landon: He's not a killer.
Hope: We're not trying to --
Landon: He's not a killer. [Landon's face has grown heated in defense of his friend.]
Alaric: I know a little bit about his background. Neglectful birth parents. Orphaned in adolescence, six foster homes in seven years, prone to fits of anger --
"That's like that for everyone of us!" Defended now angry Hayley.
Landon: You could just as easily be reading my file. That's what it's like out there for people like him and me.
[Hope intervenes. Sitting down next to him.]
Hope: Landon. I know this is hard to take in. But we want to help him. I promise. I've been going here since I was seven. This is a safe place for people like Rafael. A home. [Audrey doesn't look like she agree.]
"You don't look like you agree." Said Kol.
"Because this school is supposed to be teaching us control, but it only teaches how to repress yourself! They have vampires on bunny diet and don't even tell them that. If someone turns out ripper they won't know until they get out and taste human blood." Said Audrey.
"You can't learn control without drinking human blood." Said Marcel.
"Exactly. And they teach witches only defencive spells. How are they suppose to defend themselves without cunter-attack? You can't keep blocking forever!" Said Audrey. Davina, Kol and Freya look horrified at that.
"And look how he treats werewolf. This school is trash. Only reason i stayed there is my pack and Hope." Said Audrey. Caroline looks sad about her schools failure.
"It's not that bad." Tries to defend Hope.
"When Caroline was headmistress it was still tolerable, but then it was THAT bad. That's what happens when you make ex-hunter a supernatural school's headmaster." Said Audrey.
"You have a point. Why is he headmaster of supernatural school when he himself is human. What if someone loses control? He can't do anything!" Said Marcel.
"Why am i not headmistress anymore?" Asked Caroline.
"You are working on stopping merge." Said Hope.
"Did i do it? How do i do it?" Asked Caroline.
"You will see." Said Audrey.
"What is merge?" Asked Elijah.
"That will aslo be explained." Said Audrey.
Alaric: But if we take him in, we need to know he won't be a threat.
Landon: His girlfriend. Cassie. Last month. He was driving. There was a storm, and he took the turn too fast...
"Poor boy" Said Hayley empathetically.
Landon: He started acting out -- I thought first it was just grief, then maybe drugs or something. And then he threw a 200 pound lawn mower fifty feet across the yard. (beat) That's when our foster parents called in the Priest. They thought he was possessed by the Devil.
Alaric: All of that is consistent with a newly triggered wolf. It's normal. (then)
Thank you for that, Landon. Hope?
[A look to Hope. She knows what to do. She gives Landon's hand a reassuring squeeze.]
Hope: Everything is going to be okay. Trust me. [Audrey opens the door.]
Audrey: We're ready. [Another student enters. Milton Greasley.]
Alaric: Milton Greasley, Landon Kirby.
Mg: (wincing) C'mon, Dr. Saltzman -
Alaric: Right. "MG." Sorry. Take it from a guy named Alaric, I get it.
Damon snickers.
Alaric: Landon, MG's my student aide.
Hope: He's also a vampire.
Landon: Of course he is... You know, for a school with a secret to keep, you're kind of liberal with your information.
Alaric: Well. We don't intend for you to actually remember any of it.
"He isn't gonna compel him, right? He is a child and Rafael's best friend. He can't do that to them!" Said Caroline.
[MG suddenly steps close to Landon and compels him.]
MG: Forget everything you've seen or learned since last night. All you need to know is that your friend has found a home where he can live a better life. You'll miss him, but you know it's for the best.
Caroline glares at Alaric angrily.
[Landon looks at them. Confused and pissed.]
Landon: Are you out of your minds? How could I forget any of this?
[Everyone looks startled. This wasn't supposed to happen.]
"He is on vervain." Said Davina.
"Or supernatural." Said Klaus.
Hope: MG, did you do it wrong?
MG: No I didn't do it wrong. It's the easiest vampire trick in the book.
"He makes it sound so innocent." Said Stefan.
Audrey: Well it didn't work.
MG: Obviously. [Audrey eyes Landon suspiciously.]
Landon: What the hell is --
[Suddenly MG grabs Landon by the neck in a Hyper-vamp-speed move. The veins under his eyes flaring red. He squeezes until Landon loses consciousness. Audrey smirks.]
Audrey: I knew there was a reason i liked you, MG.
Klaus glares at MG.
"Can you stop glaring at every male we interact with?" Said Hope.
Alaric: Careful -- [As Landon falls to the ground, Alaric is there to catch him.]
Alaric: Lock him in the cellar. We need to get rid of him, fast. [MG drags Landon out, leaving them standing in shock.]
