Chapter 16

THE SALVATORE SCHOOL-DAY
[Josie, Hope and Audrey enter school.]
Josie: Lizzie?
Hope: I'll check the library.
Audrey: I'm coming with you. [Hope and Audrey go in one direction, Josie another. Someone is walking toward them.]
People are worried.
[Audrey notices and turns around with dagger in her hand.]
Alaric: What are you doing here? [Audrey puts back dagger when she sees Alaric.]
Hope: Oh, my God. You scared me.
Alaric: Dorian was supposed to keep you away.
Hope: He tried. He lost. [Audrey gave Alaric small book.]
Audrey: But here. Killing Gargoyles 101. It basically says hit it hard, repeat as needed.
"It really said that?" Asked Marcel.
"It's summary, but yeah." Said Audrey.
Alaric: You know Gaulish?
Audrey: Yep. [Gargoyle's growl is heard.]
Hope: Is that...?
Alaric: Yeah. Listen, it poisoned Lizzie. I'm guessing, to get my attention. Then it attacked me and took the knife.
Audrey: The knife? The dragon knife? And you're still breathing?
Alaric: Oh, I have a theory about that.
Hope: Well, save it, because we had to take down that containment spell to get inside the school, meaning our monster can get out.
Audrey: (corrected) Creature.
Marcel looked at her with raised eyebrow.
"I don't like that word." Said Audrey.
Alaric: A containment spell?
Audrey: Lizzie wanted to make sure whatever attacked her didn't escape into the world.
Alaric: Good girls. All right, well, guess we better find it... (takes axe off wall) ...before it makes the evening news. So how'd you take the containment spell down?
Josie: They didn't. I did. And I have questions.
FOREST-DAY
Landon: Who is that? [Jeremy cuts chain that is restraining Rafael.]
Jeremy: A werewolf hunter.
Rafael: Is that really a thing?
Jeremy: You're new to this. You probably think that being supernatural gives you the upper hand. It doesn't. This world is a scary place for someone like you, especially when you're dumb enough to use your powers in public.
"He is so different." Said Caroline.
Landon: So, what, you go around saving new werewolves or what?
Jeremy: The name's Jeremy. I've known Alaric since I was a kid, and now I work for him sometimes. He told me to track you and make sure that you stay out of trouble, which, apparently, you suck at. And that note? That was supposed to scare you to safety.
"Is it me or does he act more like Damon?" Asked Stefan.
"Well, his brother-in-law had influence on him." Said Hope.
Rafael: Note? [Landon gives Rafael 100 dollar with note on it.]
Jeremy: I'm gonna go grab the shovels. Once we bury the body, I'll bring you both back to school. [Jeremy walks away. Rafael angrily walks toward Landon.]
Rafael: What happened to "no more lies"?
"He lied about that, too." Said Klaus, glaring at Landon.
Landon: You gave up a lot coming out here with me. We were having fun today... The kind of fun you haven't let yourself have since Cassie died. When I saw the note and knew it was all gonna go to hell, I just... I just froze. I'm... I'm sorry, Rafael. I'm sorry. You should go with him. Honestly, you're probably
better off without me anyway.
"What is this pathetic victim play?" Said Klaus.
Rafael: (Sighs) I never thanked you for that. After Cassie... you were there. Like, all in. It might not have seemed like I appreciated it. I did. So let's do what we got to do here. Then let's go back to school.
Landon: They don't want me there.
Rafael: I am not going without you.
"He is good man." Said Caroline.
[Landon sighs.]
Rafael: All in.
Landon: All in. [They hug each other.]
THE SALVATORE SCHOOL
[Alaric Josie, Hope and Audrey are walking. They go near room Emma and children are.]
Alaric: Emma? Emma. [Emma opens the door and motions for them to be quiet. They hear growling. Gargoyle is in the room. They turn around. Gargoyle flies down to them and attacks Audrey. Audrey falls down.]
"Audreeey!" Yell worried Mikaelsons.
[Gargoyle is about to stab when Hope stands in front of Audrey and Alaric stands in front of Hope.]
People are on edge of their sits. Watching screen worried.
Alaric: No!
Josie: Dad! No! [Gargoyle stops. Josie hits Gargoyle from behind by stick. Gargoyle groans/growls. It turns around to attack Josie, but Alaric stabs it.]
Hope: Fluctus inpulsa. Audrey! [Audrey and Hope hold hands.]
Audrey&Hope: Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. (Gargoyle screeches) Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa! [Gargoyle explodes.]
"Yeeeees!" Cheered Caroline and hugged Stefan. Others smiled, too.
"You were brilliant, girls." Said Freya.
"Thanks, Aunt Freya." Said Audrey and Hope.
Alaric: Nice job.
Josie: How could you jump in front of her like that? You could have died, Dad.
Alaric: Honey, I knew it wouldn't kill me, because my research said so...
"That's it? You almost died in front of Josie because of some book, which could be wrong?!" Said angry Caroline. Mikaelsons on the other hand where happy he did. It saved Hope's life.
THE SALVATORE SCHOOL-ALARIC'S OFFICE-NIGHT
Hope: How's Lizzie?
Alaric: Recovering quickly, thanks to her sister.
Salvatores look relieved.
Hope: So, how did you know the gargoyle wouldn't kill you?
Audrey: Gargoyles are protectors.
"They are. Like i said they aren't monsters. Actually, all he did was out of love. Gargoyle loves humanity and he thought we, supernatural, were evil, who were trying to harm human. He is just misunderstood creature." Said Audrey. Hayley and Klaus smiled at Audrey's compassion.
Alaric: Yes. And folklore tells a tale of a gargoyle who once protected a small settlement in France whose villagers revered a powerful relic.
Audrey: A knife.
Hope: Our knife?
Alaric: As the story goes, the gargoyle loved the humans he protected so much, he vowed never to harm humanity. Instead, he chose to fight evil on their behalf.
Audrey: Us being the evil one in this scenario. Josie, Lizzie...
"See?" Said Audrey.
"Why did he want knife?" Asked Kol.
"No spoilers." Said Hope and Audrey.
Alaric: In its mind, yes. I realized when it didn't hurt me before... (Sighs) ...it saw me as the one who needed protection.
"You still couldn't be sure." Said Caroline.
Audrey: Knowing that won't make your daughters feel any better.
Alaric: I should get back to the girls.
Hope: Wait. One more thing. You're always telling us that we need to work together. To put our own feelings aside for the school, for the community. I know I haven't always listened to you with that kind of stuff, but I'm starting to think that it's actually pretty good advice, so... maybe you should take it. Because if you want me and the twins to get along, for them to be happy, for the school to be safe... These secrets are gonna tear us all apart.
Klaus smiles. Hayley looks proud of Hope.
THE SALVATORE SCHOOL-HALL-NIGHT
Alaric: If you'd asked me a week ago... I would have told you I knew the difference between myth and fact. I would have said that supernaturals were limited to the species under this roof. I would have said that folklore and fairy tales were just stories. But I can no longer say that any of that's true. 'Cause just a few days ago, we were confronted by the existence of a dragon. (Group murmuring) And then, today, our campus was terrorized by a gargoyle come to life. (Scattered murmurs) Some of us... were forced to fight. We won. This time. They were drawn here by a knife that went missing earlier this week. And for whatever reason, these creatures consider us to be the enemy. In their minds, we're the villains because we won't give them what they want. We don't even know why they want it. But we're gonna find out.
"Good speech." Approved Caroline.
[In another room. Alaric is wrapping knife in a cloth.]
Dorian:You're really trying to kill me, huh?
Alaric: (Chuckles) More like you're one of the only people I can trust.
Dorian: I'll call if I run into any problems. Oh, and I want a raise. With dental. [Both of them chuckle.]
"He deserves it." Chuckled Stefan.

Alaric: I can't say for sure what their true intentions are. I can't say there won't be more attacks. That's why I'm telling you this. To warn you. To ask you to look out for each other. [Mg brings brownies to Lizzie.]
MG: Hey. I had the kitchen make these. Your favorite. Brownies.
"He is so cute." Said Lizzie.
Lizzie: Thanks, MG.
Alaric: To do what's best for one another. [Laughter and indistinct chatter is heard.]
Alaric: And we will stand together, we will fight together, and we will win or lose this battle together, no matter what comes next.
"Not bad... for Alaric." Said Audrey. Hope shooks her head amused by her sister's antics.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-MILL-NIGHT
[Audrey and Jed are sitting on ground and smoking cigarettes.]
"No smoking!" Said Klaus, Elijah and Hayley together.
"Oh, come on! I'm tribrid. It can't do anything to me." Defended Audrey.
"No smoking!" Repeated Klaus.
"I will check it!" Said Hayley. Audrey crossed her arms and huffed.
Jed: You really had hell of a day, dollface.
Mikaelson men glare at Jed.
"It's just innocent flirting." Defended Audrey.
Audrey: Mhmm. How was yours, my white chocolate?
Audrey snickers.
Jed: Normal. Boring. What do you think will be next?
Audrey: What do you mean?
Jed: First Dragon, now Gargoyle, what do you think will be next?
Audrey: I don't know. Oooh... maybe zombies.
"You had to jinx us!" Said Hope.
"What do you mean? Did zombies really appear?" Asked Davina.
"Spoilers." Said Audrey.
Jed: Zombies would be awesome!
Audrey: I know, right?
"It's not game. You could be seriously harmed!" Scolded Hayley.
Jed: You will call me on next adventure, bitch! First you didn't call me when you went to fight Dragon and i forgave you...
Audrey: I went to kill Landon, how was i supposed to know i would meet Dragon?
Jed: You could tell me about Gargoyle!
Audrey: Fine. You will be the first to know about another creature, okay?
Jed: I'll consider it.
Audrey: Jerk!
Jed: Bitch!
Audrey: Arsehole!
Jed: cunt!
Audrey&Jed: Whore! [They laugh.]
"Languege!" Said Klaus and Elijah.
"Watch your languege, young lady!" Said Hayley.
