Chapter 44

MYSTIC FALLS-DAY
[Lizzie's sleeping on floor. Kaleb is trying to wake her.]
Mikaelsons are glaring at Lizzie.
"What's happening? Why is she sleeping on floor of some dirty thing?" Said Caroline.
"I hope she gets Pneumonia and dies." Said Kol. Salvatores glare. Kol glares back.
Kaleb: Hey. Hey. Hey. [Lizzie wakes up.]
Kaleb: What's-your-name? Sun's almost down. We can't stay here.
"What's happening?" Asked confused Hope.
Jed: Patrols will be out soon. We got to move.
Lizzie: (exhales) Where the hell are we?
Kaleb: (scoffs) Damn, white girl. Mystic Falls. You said your father could help us get out of here.
Jed: Maybe down to Mexico. Dr. Saltzman is your father, right? And you know where to find him? [Lizzie sees wanted posters of Rafael and Lela. Both of their posters have eyes scratched.]
"Wait. Why are Rafael and Lela wanted?" Asked Audrey.
"And why are their eyes scratched?" Asked Hope.
Lizzie: Why are their eyes all scratched out?
Kaleb: (Sighs) 'Cause they're finally free.
"What does he mean?" Asked Hayley.
Jed: Hey. Come on.
Kaleb: Death is better than being hunted by Triad until you starve, bruh.
"They.. they.." said schocked Hope.
"It's not real, Hope. Lizzie will bring back this world or we wouldn't be here." Said Audrey. Hope nodded, still shaken.
[They see Triad posters and Klaus's wanted poster.]
"I'm wanted?" Said Klaus.
"Strange, isn't it? You weren't wanted even as a child." Said Davina. Klaus glares at her. People hide their laughs.
"She is my future wife." Said Kol proudly. Now Marcel glared at Kol.
"Well, at least, they got good photo." Said Audrey.
[Helicopter passing is overheard.]
Kaleb: Speaking of. It's time to bounce. Okay, lead the way, blondie. [Kaleb pushes Lizzie up.]
Kaleb: I hope the Supernatural Railroad isn't just a fairy tale.
ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE-SALVATORE SCHOOL-DAY
[Lizzie, Kaleb and Jed enter. Everyone is dressed in blacks.]
Penelope: Welcome to the Resistance. I wish I could say it was under better circumstances. (To Lizzie) You've got a lot of nerve, showing up here.
"Can't they already explain what happened in that world?" Asked Damon.
Lizzie: Penelope, what's going on?
Penelope: At least you earned this mental breakdown. Leave, before I feed you to the vamps.
"Go Penelope!" Cheered Audrey.
"Do it!" Cheered Kol. Salvatores glare at them. They glare back.
Lizzie: Please, just tell me what's happening.
Penelope: (yells) Out!
Lizzie: Who died? [Penelope scoffs. Alaric approaches.]
Lizzie: Dad. What's going on? Why is this world like this? [Alaric sighs and hugs Lizzie.]
Alaric: Sweetie... you can't be here.
[They go to other room.]
Alaric: You ran away. I've been worried sick, looking for you.
Lizzie: Why would I run?
Alaric: You don't remember what happened? Must be some sort of amnesia triggered by the trauma.
"What trauma?" Asked Stefan.
Lizzie: What trauma?
Alaric: It doesn't matter now. All that matters is that you're home. Not that we can stay much longer. Triad's closing in every day. [Lizzie sees newspapers. Newspaper is writing about Klaus and Caroline and they have thier photoes.]
"Seems like you got married and decided to destroy the world on honeymoon." Chuckled Audrey.
"It is not funny!" Said Caroline.
"It kinda is." Said Kol.
"See? He gets it." said Audrey.
"I knew you couldn't resist my charm." Said Klaus with smirk and winked at Caroline playfully. Stefan glares at Klaus.
"I already have future husband!" Glared Caroline and grabbed kissed Stefan. Klaus chuckles amused for a second forgeting what caused all this. Lizzie's wish.
Lizzie: The world knows about vampires?
Alaric: You've forgotten more than I thought. Klaus Mikaelson lost everything that anchored him to his humanity, and so he shut it off two years ago and started a war.
"So our family is dead? That's what would make dad turn it off." Said Audrey.
"That's all your stupid daughter's fault!!" Glared Klaus at Caroline.
"She didn't..." said Caroline.
"Yes, she did. She purposely killed my daughters! She did with her own hands or not doesn't matter. She killed my daughters!" Said Hayley and got up to attack, but Hope and Audrey sit her down.
"Mom, fighting won't change anything. We have future to watch." Reminded Hope. Hayley glared at Salvatores and sat down.
"Dad, you, too." Said Audrey.
"I haven't done anything." Grumbled Klaus.
"No, but you have that murderious  look, which means you are going to." Said Audrey. Hope notices other Mikaelsons are same.
"You, too, uncle Kol and Uncle Elijah and Aunt Freya and do i have to say all of your names one by one? It's past! Which got fixed. It doesn't matter now. There is bigger problems you need to concentrate on. So keep watching!" Said Hope.
"Sorry, sweetie." Said Hayley and kissed Hope.
Alaric: Outed supernaturals in the process. And just like that, Triad had an ugly, racist platform to stand on, and nothing's been safe ever since.
Lizzie: Where's Josie? Dad. Where is she?
Alaric: She's dead, Elizabeth. The vigil's for her. [Lizzie stumbles back.]
Salvatores look destroyed by the news.
"No, no, no. My baby." Said Caroline.
"Now you know how it feels." Glared Hayley.
Lizzie: No. No, no. She-she can't... she can't be. That's not what I wanted.
Alaric: I know. But, right now, you just... need to get some sleep.
Lizzie: No. (Exhlaes) No, no. I-I can... I can fix this. I-I can make this whole miserable world go away. Josie's not really gone. I promise, okay? I'll fix it.
(Yells) Genie?! Genie?! Genie! [Alaric grabs Lizize.]
Alaric: Elizabeth, please, please...
Lizzie: This was my last wish. (Exhales) I can't take it back. (Crying) Oh. I've ruined everything. Oh, no. It's my fault.
Alaric: (yells) Penelope.
Lizzie: It's all my fault!
"Yes, it is." Said angry Marcel.
Alaric: (yells) Penelope! [Lizzie screams and sobs. Penelope knocks her out with spell.]
Salvatores look at her worried.
[Lizzie is in cellar. Still knocked out. She wakes up and sees Jinni seating nearby.]
Lizzie: Damn you, Genie.
Jinni: It's Jin...
Lizzie: (Exhales) Never mind.
Jinni: Don't be so hard on yourself, even if your father did just lock you up in a cellar for your own safety. Third wish is always tricky. Better luck on your next one.
Mikaelsons perk up atbthat, so do Salvatores.
"Next one? That's how she fixes it?" Asked Hayley hopefully.
Lizzie: My next one? I-I get another wish?
Jinni: Whoever told you a jinni only grants three?
"Every genie story ever?" Said Davina.
Lizzie: Aladdin. Every genie story ever.
Jinni: A Jinni can grant or ignore any wish they choose. We won't work against our own self-interest, so you can forget about wishing me dead. But if you'd like another wish to reset your life right back to where we began, I can do that. On one condition.
Lizzie: Anything. What?
Jinni: You give me the urn.
Lizzie; Oh, I knew you were gonna screw me. You used my words against me, right from the start.
"You should have used your tiny brain and make smart wishes." Said Audrey.
Jinni: (Chuckles) Like you said, I'm a monster. Should've trusted your gut.
Lizzie: You trapped me in the worst situation imaginable, just so you could get what you want!
"She trapped herself there." Glared Freya.
Jinni: The urn is a small price to pay to cease suffering like this.
Lizzie: You don't know anything about suffering.
Jinni: (harshly) Don't I? As all jinn are, I was born into five centuries of suffering. years of realizing other people's dreams before I'd ever have the chance to pursue one of my own. And in the th year of my term, I crossed paths with a true monster. And it consumed me, sent me to a place of total isolation, utter damnation.
"I get her. She isn't monster, she just does what she has to do." Said Audrey.
Lizzie: Malivore. I know. So what?
Jinni: I wandered there, lost and alone, until I was given one final chance to win my freedom. So accept my offer and wish me the urn.
"Do it." Said Freya.
"If she does that.." said Caroline.
"I don't care." Said Freya.
Lizzie: If I wish you the urn, I'm giving you the key to a supernatural apocalypse. Isn't that technically against your self-interest?
Jinni: Quite the opposite. It's my only hope. Because if I return the urn to Malivore, then I am free and at peace. Whatever happens after that is not my problem.
Lizzie: Selfish.
"Says her." Scoffed Audrey and Davina.
Jinni: Said the pot to the kettle. I don't know why we're debating. This life is dreadful. So wish it away!
Lizzie: Shut up, okay?! I just... I need to think. I need to find a loophole.
Jinni: There is no loophole.
Lizzie: Magic always has a loophole.
Jinni: Yeah? Well, you better find it quickly. Things are taking a hell of a turn up there.
Lizzie: What do you mean?
[Jinni snaps her fingers and makes Lizzie appear upstairs.]
SALVATORE SCHOOL GROUNDS-NIGHT
Lizzie: Dad?
Alaric: Lizzie. Did Penelope let you out?We've been working on getting the right dosages for you.
Lizzie; What are we doing? Are we hiding?
Alaric; No, we're fighting. Triad got wind of our location. With Josie gone, we decided to take a stand and put an end to this once and for all.
Lizzie: Oh, God. You're gonna get slaughtered. And it's all my fault.
"At least she realises that much." Scrowled Audrey.
Alaric: No, it's my fault. I should've never kept that secret from you.
Lizzie: What secret?
Alaric: Your mom and I had been waiting for the right time to tell you a piece of your family history, but... we waited too long.
Caroline's eyes widen.
Lizzie: What family history?
Alaric: There's something that happens to twins born into your coven, like you and Josie. When you turn, the Gemini must merge.
Lizzie: Merge?
Alaric: It's a battle of will. Only the strongest of the two twins will survive it.
"That's horrible." Said Davina.
Lizzie: So one of us would have to kill the other one?
Alaric: We've been trying to find a way to prevent it ever since you were little kids. That's why your mom's always off traveling. We tried to keep it from you as long as we could. But when we turned the house into a rescue operation, one of the witches who was passing through told you the story of the Gemini, and you...
Lizzie: Dad, what did I do?
Alaric: You got scared. You had one of your episodes, and you went dark. Paranoid. To you, Josie became your biggest threat. You became obsessed with winning, and then you lost control.
"She killed Josie?" Asked wide-eyed Hope.
Lizzie: (Crying) I killed her.
Alaric: It was an accident.
Lizzie: No matter how you say it... I killed her. You must hate me so much.
"My babies." Sighs Caroline sadly.
Alaric: No. The only person I hate is myself for failing you both.
Lizzie: No. Dad, I've been to other places, other realities, and I know that that sounds crazy, but you need to believe me.You always do everything that you can to protect me and Josie. Time after time. World after world.
"And fail in every single one." Pointed out Audrey.
Alaric: Then I wish we could be in one of your other worlds right now.
Lizzie: (crying) No matter what happens, I need you to hear this. To believe me. There's a world where your dream came true. You built a school for me and Josie, and it was so beautiful. And we were safe and loved. And you helped so many people. And I was just too stupid and jealous to see it.
Alaric: In this other world, did I tell you about the Merge? [Lizzie doesn't answer.]
Alaric: Then I guess we were both pretty stupid, huh? [Penelope approaches.]
Penelope: It's time.
Lizzie: No. Dad, wait. I can get us out of this. I just need to think.
Alaric: That's a good idea. You think, baby. [Alaric kisses Lizzie's head.]
Alaric: (Voice breaking) I love you. I love you so much. [Lizzie is crying.]
Salvatores look at them sadly.
[Alaric looks at his people.]
Alaric: Let's go give them their war. [People cheer.]
[Later, Lizzie is sitting elsewhere. Still in Salvatore school grounds.]
Lizzie: Think. Think. [Jinni appears next to her.]
Jinni: Not exactly your strong suit. This would all go so much easier if you'd just accept my offer.
Lizzie: Zip it, Smurfette. I know there's a way we can both get what we want. I just have to think of the perfect wish.
Jinni: As I've told you, I will not grant you anything unless it involves me finding peace.
"What if she wishes that Jinni have never met Malivore. Jinni would be free and Lizzie would go back to the world how it was." Said Elijah.
"Of course you would find loophole." Said Hayley fondly.
"Let's hope so will Lizzie." Said Marcel.
Lizzie: And I said quiet! [There is a little explosion.]
Jinni: Maybe you need a little incentive. [Jinni snaps her fingers. Bomb is thrown.]
Alaric: (yells) Incoming! [War starts. They are all fighting. We go back to Lizzie and Jinni talking.]
Lizzie: Okay, fine. Bouncing through your wonky worlds taught me something. I am selfish. I've made mistakes. But giving you the urn would be the biggest mistake of all. It could ruin everyone's life, destroy my father's dream of making any reality a better place.
"Isn't it exactly what is happening right now?" Said Klaus.
Lizzie: It's bad enough that I did that to him time after time. I can't do it again.
Jinni: You sure about that?  [Lizzie watches Alaric fight.]
Lizzie: When I fix this, he'll be fine. And I won't give you the satisfaction of breaking me.
Jinni: You were already broken. That's why I chose you in the first place.
Lizzie: That just means that you can't break me any more.
"I don't get that saying. You can break broken. Like if glass breaks into two pieces, you can break it to thousands. Only because it was broken before doesn't mean you can't break it again." Said Audrey.
Lizize: So read my lips. I am never wishing you that urn. You want it so bad? Why didn't you just take it when it was right in front of you? [Jinni doesn't answer.]
Lizzie: Because you can't. That's it, isn't it? You said it yourself. You can only do what someone wishes you to do. That's your curse. And you are just as broken as I am. But I know how to fix you.
Jinni: How?
Lizzie: By winning your dumbass game. I wish that you had never met the monster that sent you to Malivore.
Everyone looks relieved.
"She got it." Said relieved Elijah.
Jinni: Huh. If I never went to Malivore...
Lizzie: You'd have completed your 500 years of service.
Jinni: (exhales) I'd be free.
Lizzie: That's my wish. Take it or leave it.
Jinni: Your wish is my command.
Lizzie: Boom! Suck on that!
Jinni: But there's a catch. We will never have met, either, which means...
Lizzie: I won't remember the Merge.
Jinni: Not consciously. You'll be just like all those poor souls I helped over the centuries who used their final wishes to reset their realities.
"What happened to them?" Asked Caroline.
Lizzie: What happened to them?
Jinni: They found their worlds just as they left them. Only their minds weren't. Because somehow our journeys stayed with them and slowly drove them insane. It's like you said. There's always a loophole with magic. And when you find out your father's secret, as you inevitably will, history will likely repeat itself, and you'll kill Josie all over again.
"No, no. I won't let that happen." Protested Caroline.
Lizzie: I take it back. I-I wish to...
Jinni: I thank you for my freedom, Lizzie.
Lizzie: No! I said wait! (Echoing) Wait!
SALVATORE SCHOOL-LIZZIE AND JOSIE'S DORM-DAY
[Lizzie appears back in her room, in her universe.]
Josie: (O.C) Lizzie? Lizzie. [Josie enters the room.]
Josie: Lizzie? Please don't be mad at Dad. [Lizzie hugs Josie tightly.]
"She remembers?" Asked Hayley.
Josie: Oh. What's happening? Why are you suffocating me?
Lizzie: I have no idea.
"She doesn't." Asnered Elijah.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-KITCHEN -NIGHT
Lizzie: Look, I don't know when it started, but on a fundamental level, I think I'm broken. And I realize this is all very sudden, but I just, for whatever reason, have this feeling that something terrible is gonna happen if I don't change.
Caroline smiles peoudly at Lizzie.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-ALARIC'S OFFICE-DAY
[Alaroc's talking on a phone.]
Alaric: I... I'm so sorry, Caroline. I know, I should not have missed your texts about the kids. It won't happen again. Lizzie's been vibrating pretty high. You think she's on the verge of an episode?
Yeah. All right. I'll keep an eye on her. Any other leads? (Sighs) All right. Well, keep at it. We'll find a solution. Yeah.
[Alaric hangs up the phone. Alaric is reading book on Gemini Coven. Lizzie knocks and enters the room.]
Lizzie: You got a sec?
Alaric: Well, this morning's evidence to the contrary, I always have time for you. What's on your mind?
Lizzie: (smiling) I'm sorry about earlier. Mom gave me all of these tools to manage my ups and downs, but... they all go out the window when it comes to Hope or her sister, who always annoys me with her comments.
"She makes us die before we are even born and i'm the bad guy? You, Mystic fallsers are so weird." Said Audrey.
Alaric: That seems pretty self-aware. What brought this on?
Lizzie: I don't know.
Alaric: Well... maybe it'll come to you. In the meantime, I appreciate you trying.
Lizzie: I love you, Dad. [Lizzie and Alaric hug.]
Alaric: Aw. I love you, too, sweetheart.
[Lizzie sees book Alaric is holding.]
Lizzie: What's that?
Alaric: Oh! This is... nothing you need to worry about. [Lizzie leaves. Alaric sights.]
"Liar, liar, pants on fire." Sang Audrey.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-CORRIDOR-DAY
[Lizzie is walking in corridor.]
Lizzie: (O.S.) The thoughts in my head, I think that they have something to do with Hope and Audrey. [Lizzie meets Hope and Audrey. They are holding books.]
Lizzie: Hey.
Hope&Audrey: Hey.
Lizzie: What's all that?
Hope: Oh, We were thinking we could spell a barrier around the urn so when the next monster shows up, we can trap it. Want to help?
Audrey: (to Hope) Wait. What?
Lizzie: Pass. [Lizzie leaves.]
"Lizize was trying to be friends." Snorted Audrey.
SALVATORE SCHOOL-KITCHEN- NIGHY
Lizzie: But I can't put my finger on it. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Any thoughts?
Pendro: I don't know, Lizzie. Sounds like you got a lot going on. [Pedro is holding a sandwich.]
"She is telling this to kid?" Said surprised Stefan.
Lizzie: Isn't it past your curfew, Pedro?Go to bed. And leave the sandwich.
Pedro: But you said you wanted to talk.
Lizzie: Did I? [Pedro gives sandwitch to Lizzie and leaves.]
Lizzie: (sighs) Can't imagine why. [Lizzie bites the sandwich.]
