He had asked the question at last; it had been lingering in his mind for as long as he had seen her. It was one of the biggest mysteries that he couldn't solve, he had searched everywhere, for answers, for a past that she may have lived, but nothing came up.

According to people, she didn't exist, she was a nobody, and that made it very easy for her to hide herself in the shadows, because she was already submerged in them, she was nothing but the shadow itself.

He had put at least 10 detectives at the job to find anything about her, any fragment of information, anything that would tell him who she really was. But he had turned up defeated, he had faced defeat for the first time and it had tasted bitter.

"You couldn't even find that out?" she snorted, "I really thought you would be better at this king, conqueror of kingdoms, defeater of empires, I really thought you would be able to find out who I am" she crinkled her nose out of delight.

Talking trash about the king was her favourite way to pass time.

He walked towards her, taking long steps, taking her neck in his hands again, pushing her head backward on the bed frame, "Don't test my patience Little Killer, just because I haven't started torturing you yet, doesn't mean I haven't planned it. I have thought about every way I would give you pain; just how merciless I would be and that's when I would like to see you laugh" he gritted his teeth.

A sound came out of her mouth, a forced laugh, the depletion of oxygen making her eyes pop out, but she still managed to stifle a snicker.

She was getting on his nerves, "It is taking everything inside of me to not put a sword through your heart, Shadow and however many times you think you want death, when death is approaching every human wants to live in that fraction of a second between life and death, you want to live. So shut your little mouth, and don't talk back to me!" his gaze darkening, his voice indicating that he means what he says.

"Just stop talking to me, I won't talk back" she replied, giving a solution, "I was not the one who came running to my door, because they had an intruder in their room" his voice laced with sarcasm, "You boast so much about yourself, how you kill your enemy before they can see the sun of the next day, but you ran for your life because what? You had somebody in these quarters?" it was his time to laugh, his lips pushed back giving way to a smile, something that the Shadow thought he didn't possess, "I didn't run away to save my life, I ran away to protect the cover you had sewn for me, killing somebody would not look good for a queen" she said, "You are not a queen and even when you marry me. You. Will. Never. Be. the. Queen." he punctuated every word.

His words sending a shiver down her body, she knew even if she married him, she won't have any powers per se. But she had to try her luck. "I know that King, I was just talking through the people's perspective" she replied keeping up with their little banter. It was like they were fighting, and when she fought, she fought with all her might, but she wasn't the only one, Maharaj Ranvijay Singh had never lost a fight.

It felt like it was two people with same egos going against each other, their moves a copy of the other but their thought process and mentality totally different.

"Don't you have court, I haven't seen you attend court since I have come here" she said diverting the topic, "I don't hold court so that you can see it, and no court is held on Thursdays" he answered, turning back in an attempt to leave, "You really want to know my name?" she said, making him halt.

"Stop playing games, I don't want to know, also it seems like you have challenged me, I will find out what your name is, even if I have to ask Brahmadev himself." He resorted, flexing his neck, his back muscles moving in a rhythm of their own.

"Ok, I will wait, but I have a feeling you will not be able to find out who and what I am" she replied with utmost honesty, "It was only my mother who ever called me by my name, she was the one who gave it and she was the one who used it, I would suggest you take back this challenge, my own father never bothered to ask my name, how would anyone in the kingdom would know?" her mouth forming a straight line, her comment made the king turn back, he looked into her eyes as if to decipher if she was telling the truth, he came to no conclusions, her eyes were as dark and as emotionless as his own.

"I will tell you my name myself" she declared, "but only when" "When?" he questioned "I will tell you my name the day you earn my respect"

He heaved a sigh, I saw that coming from a mile away he thought, "Sure, I would put all my time and resources and my abilities to earn your respect, because I am absolutely dying to know what your hideous and dreadful name is. No, sorry, I don't have enough time to do that neither am I willing to" happy that he got the last word, he took his exit, not ready to delve into another conversation with her.

She stood there in shock; I should have killed myself when I had the opportunity because it would be better than to deal with this man-child, her mind said, she cursed herself, but a bigger issue was swimming inside her brain.

Am I missing something? This is definitely not how you treat a mass murderer or somebody who had eroded your land and killed your men and made the woman of your country a widow, is the King even sane? Or...what is he doing? What is he planning?

Her sixth sense was beeping with a signal of caution, she knew there was a problem, but she didn't know what the problem was.

Well... too many questions and right now the Shadow has none answered.

But the answers to all her questions will be given in due time.

Until then, I have a question for you, my dear lovely readers,

What is that one thing you like and hate about the Shadow? until now, is she likable or she is just another arrogant bitch?

I am open to positive criticism and I would love to see you comment.
