Third person
*a few weeks later*
Nick and Charlie's cosy living room buzzed with excitement as they prepared for the arrival of their friends.
It was the first time they were hosting a playdate since Lily and Oakley, their adorable twins, came into their lives three weeks ago.
The soft sound of baby coos filled the air as Nick and Charlie made sure everything was just right for their guests.
Toys were scattered across the rug, a colourful mobile spun gently above the bassinet, and a stack of diapers and wipes sat neatly on the coffee table.
Tao and Elle arrived first. They brought with them a basket of freshly baked cookies, their faces beaming with anticipation. Following closely behind were Tara and Darcy, carrying a bouquet of colourful flowers and a stack of children's books.
"Wow, they're so tiny!" Elle exclaimed, her eyes twinkling with delight as she peeked into the bassinet where Lily and Oakley lay, peacefully sleeping.
Nick and Charlie exchanged proud smiles.
"Thank you! They're our little miracles," Nick replied, gently stroking Lily's soft cheek while Charlie adjusted Oakley's blanket.
Tara and Darcy cooed in unison, marvelling at the tiny features of the newborns.
"They're absolutely precious," Tara remarked, reaching out to gently touch Oakley's tiny fingers.
Charlie nodded, his heart swelling with love. "We're just grateful they're healthy and happy."
As the adults settled onto the couches, each couple taking turns holding the babies, conversation flowed effortlessly. Nick poured cups of tea for everyone while Charlie passed around the plate of cookies.
"So, how's parenthood treating you?" Tao asked with a warm smile, his gaze shifting between Nick and Charlie.
Nick chuckled, his eyes sparkling with a mixture of exhaustion and joy. "It's definitely been an adventure so far. We're learning something new every day."
Elle nodded in understanding. "I can only imagine! But you both seem like naturals."
Nick recounted a humorous moment from the previous night when both babies decided to cry in unison, prompting a round of laughter from the group.
As the afternoon wore on, the conversation shifted to lighter topics, with everyone eagerly sharing parenting tips and tricks.
Tara recommended a baby carrier that had been a lifesaver for her and Darcy during outings when they've babysat nephews and neices, while Elle shared a recipe for homemade baby food that her sister had sworn by.
Meanwhile, the babies began to stir, their tiny cries signalling their hunger. Nick and Charlie excused themselves to tend to their needs, returning moments later with the twins nestled in their arms.
"They're getting so big already," Darcy remarked, her eyes soft as she watched the babies feed.
Nick nodded, a proud smile spreading across his face. "They certainly have healthy appetites."
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the friends reluctantly said their goodbyes, promising to meet again soon. Tara and Darcy offered to help clean up, insisting that Nick and Charlie needed their rest.
The evening sky turned into a canvas of pastel hues as the friends parted ways, each carrying with them the warmth of shared laughter and the joy of witnessing the blossoming love between Nick, Charlie, Lily, and Oakley.
And as Nick and Charlie tucked the twins into their cribs for the night, they couldn't help but feel immensely grateful for the beautiful community that surrounded their growing family, knowing that with such love and support, their journey through parenthood would be filled with endless blessings and cherished memories.
