Matt walks down the street looking at his phone waiting for the text he knew was coming soon when he was shoved into the nearest brick wall by the collar of his shirt.

He looks up and sighs when he sees Damon with an infuriated scowl.

"What?" Matt asks sighing when he smells the liquor on the vampires breath.

"You were waiting weren't you?" Damon asks chucking to himself.

"Waiting for what?" Matt looks at him confused.

"For her" Damon looks up at him with his vampire form showing but Matt doesn't show any signs of being scared.

"Damon?"

Damon visibly freezes and looks towards the voice seeing Y/n with two coffee cups in her hands with a scowl on her face mixed with confusion.

"Put him down now" she demands with an eerily calm voice.

Damon puts Matt down fixing his collar while contemplating his next words to the girl he's still in love with but had let go. All he could think about was that she has two coffees, Matt was looking at his messages and she happens to be there.

"What you're dating this guy now?" Damon laughs drunkenly pointing at Matt.

"Damon..that's non of your business" she sighs crossing her arms feeling uncomfortable.

Matt walks past Damon walking over to her kissing her head and takes the coffee that she hands to him with a small smile.

Damon stares at the two holding himself back from ripping Matt apart and going to a bar getting even more drunk than he already is.

"Damon you're drunk, I can tell and you should go home" she tells him grabbing onto Matt's hand after he grabs hers for support.

Damon scoffs at her concern just chalking it up to wanting to get him to leave so she doesn't have to see him anymore.

"Why? I'm drunk because I had fun with my new girls which is more than you and at least they want me"

"Damon they don't choose what you're doing, you're using them for sex and blood" she sighs squeezing onto Matt's hand.

"Well Princess I told you I'm not good, do you still believe there's good in me?" Damon scoffs bitterly.

"Damon go home" she tells him before turning around to leave still holding Matt's hand.

"Does your new boyfriend know that you're wearing the necklace I gave you after we moved in together?" Damon asks with a smirk when he sees her abruptly stop in her tracks and whip around with a glare.

She squeezes Matt's hand before letting go walking back towards Damon as she fiddles with the necklace clasp and takes it off throwing it at Damon.

"There now I don't" she glares at him before turning around walking away grabbing onto Matt's hand.

Damon leans down picking up the necklace staring at the ruby suddenly feeling sober knowing that he screwed up and nothing will fix it.

The week before Damon's relationship fell apart he and Y/n had laid in bed wrapped in one another's arms as they talked about their future which consisted of getting a pet and one day getting married.

Damon's frown deepens as he stares closer at the ruby hanging from the necklace that he spent hours in the jewelry shop looking at almost every option because none of them reminded him of her, until he saw the shiny red ruby with a gold chain and that's when he knew he found the one for you.

He flips over the necklace seeing the small heart carved into the gold and sighs when he remembers the personalized gift he wanted to give her and how he hoped she would love it.

Her face when she opened the gift box, the tears that fell from her eyes when she saw the heart and the way she threw her arms around him thanking him profusely and telling him how much she loved him.

Now it's all in the past, now he's just a depressed drunk monster who pushed away the only person who still saw him as the kind human he once was.

It's all over and there's nothing he can do...
