Y/n groans at the bright sunlight shining into her bedroom and lets out a loud sigh at the reminder she wakes up to every morning since her breakup with Damon, instead of being in her newish home with the guy of her dreams she's lying in her childhood bedroom in her childhood bed staring at the now full bookshelf.

She gets up throwing on some clothes and runs her hand through her hair to contain the mess she calls hair and walks out of the room to see if anyone else is awake.

Downstairs there are clatter noises from the kitchen and she gets what feels like a distant memory.

The sound of hushed cursing and pans clattering comes from the kitchen as Y/n walks forward biting back a laugh when she sees Damon standing near the stove with a bunch of ingredients juggled in his arms.

"Good morning sweetheart" he kisses her forehead before going back to what he was originally doing.

"Watcha doin?" she asks with a smirk.

"Making you breakfast" he continues to look around the kitchen growing more impatient not able to find what he's looking for.

Without needing to ask what he's looking for Y/n gets up from the bar stool walking around the counter grabbing a pan and placing it in his hand smirking at his head shake as he lets out a small chuckle.

"What would I do without you?" he smiles down at her putting the pan on the counter and wrapping his arms around her waist.

"Well who knew the big bad Damon Salvatore could be so damn sweet" she rolls her eyes sarcastically with a small smile.

"Can't go around telling people I have a reputation to keep" he rolls his eyes chuckling.

"Yeah, yeah you're lucky I love you" she rolls her eyes kissing his jaw.

"I love you too Sweetheart" he pulls her closer placing a kiss on her cheeks then on her nose and finally on her lips.

Y/n snaps out of her thoughts and continues to walk down the steps to see who's making the commotion in the kitchen.

"Jeremy quiet!"

Y/n smiles recognizing Bonnie's hushed warning.

"Relax Bon" he responds in a regular volume.

Y/n walks into the kitchen seeing Jeremy and Bonnie grabbing things in the kitchen before he grabs her bringing her into his arms kissing her cheek and smiles when she giggles leaning back on him.

"Hey guys"

The two separate and go back to making breakfast without another word. Y/n rolls her eyes at the obvious awkwardness.

Ever since her and Damon broke up her friends have avoided saying his name like the plague and they avoid talking about their relationships or dates they go on.

"Guys relax just because I walk into a room doesn't mean you have to keep your distance from each other" Y/n rolls her eyes with a laugh.

"Are you sure?" Bonnie asks concerned.

"Bon it's been like two weeks since the breakup I'm feeling better, I even agreed to go out with Care and Becca tonight- maybe meet someone" Y/n shrugs walking over to the coffee pot pouring herself a cup taking a sip.

"Are you sure meeting someone new is the best thing to do?" Bonnie asks her unsure.

"Bon I'm gonna have to get over him sometime" Y/n shrugs trying to convince her friend and brother that she's feeling better.

"Okay if you're sure" Bonnie nods smiling at her.

A few hours later Y/n is in her bedroom getting ready for her night out with Caroline and Rebekah looking at herself in the mirror. The dark circles under her eyes have faded and the red puffy tear stained cheeks are back to how they were before.

Is it weird for her to spend her days and nights without him, Yes it is but she knows that he was right it's better this way especially if it means he'll be happier.

She grabs her purse looking in her mirror one last time smiling at her appearance and the smile her lips haven't been able to form in days.

Walking down the stairs she laughs to herself when she hears Jeremy scolding Caroline and Rebekah about tonight.

"She's been through enough so don't get her blackout drunk, got it?" he glares at the two blondes.

"Jeez little Gilbert you're a hardass" Caroline rolls her eyes with a smirk.

"Watch over her" he rolls his eyes annoyed at the two blondes who brush his concerns off.

"Jer she'll be okay" Bonnie assures him grabbing his hand.
