Hospital Assurance

Y/n lays in a hospital bed with multiple machines hooked up to herself as her limp body takes short shallow breaths.

The nurse checks her chart and vitals before walking out into the waiting room where most of the group are waiting anxiously.

"Are you here for Y/n Gilbert?" she asks them looking at Y/n's paperwork.

"Yes! Is everything okay?" Elena jumps up walking overt to the nurse worriedly.

"She just got out of surgery and is resting at the moment, she should be awake tomorrow" the nurse informs her.

"Can we see her?" Jeremy asks walking over to them.

"Are you family?" The nurse asks with a raised eyebrow.

"She's our sister" Elena answers pointing to herself and Jeremy.

"Okay family only" the nurse nods giving the group a stern look before walking away.

Elena nods and turns to the group giving them a nod before walking to Y/n's hospital room holding Jeremy's hand for support.

They get to the room and open the door. Elena looks away holding back tears when she sees her sister's pale unmoving body lying on the bed hooked up to machines.

"I'm gonna kill him" Jeremy grits his teeth wiping away a few loose tears.

"Jeremy stay calm okay" Elena grabs his shoulder trying to keep him calm.

"He almost killed her, if Caroline didn't wake up when she did and message us Y/n would be dead bleeding out on the floor" Jeremy tightens his fists.

"But she isn't, we need to focus and take care of her closely now" Elena tells him.

"I know, but how many times is he going to screw up before he gets his karma?" Jeremy sighs looking at his little sister.

"I talked to Stefan earlier and Damon's remembering everything he did when he lost his humanity and it's taking its toll now" Elena tells him.

"Good, I hope he remembers everything and can't live with himself" Jeremy scoffs walking over to Y/n and grabs her hand in his.

Jeremy can feel Y/n's cold fragile hand unmoving in his and it brings him back to everyone he was close to that died over the years. He can't loose his little sister, her and Elena are the only family he has left.

Elena watches his eyes gloss over, she looks away not able to look at the heartbroken look on his face. She walks over to them and sits down on the chair near the hospital bed and grabs Y/n's other hand.

I don't like writing Alaric in the story because of the man who plays his character. If you didn't know Matthew Davis who plays Alaric is really inappropriate with the woman he worked with on set and made them uncomfortable so I do not support this man but the character he played was a good guy, just not the actor!!

At the Salvatore Manor Stefan stands at the door to the cells on the phone with Alaric telling him what happened. At the moment Alaric is out of town looking into a few animal attacks that look to be vampires who were the cause of the attacks.

"Just kill me"

"Damon I'm not going to kill you" Stefan shakes his head walking into the basement.

"Why not? I'm too far gone now" Damon shrugs.

"She's alive, Elena told me she's asleep right now and that she'll hopefully wake up tomorrow" Stefan assures him.

"I almost killed her" Damon sighs leaning his head back on the stone wall.

"I know but she's fine" Stefan tries to reason.

"How's Alaric?" Damon asks changing the subject.

"He's coming back, he wants to be there for Y/n when she wakes up and knows that Elena and Jeremy will need help" Stefan answers.

"Is he pissed?" Damon asks.

"Yeah he's pretty upset with you but he knows that your humanity was off" Stefan assures.

"She'll never forgive me" Damon sighs.

"You and I both know that after talking with her and explaining everything that's been going on with you that she'll probably forgive you" Stefan tells him sitting down across from the cell.

"Well Blondie is back to hating me" Damon chuckles.

"When has she stopped" Stefan laughs.

"That's true" Damon nods with a chuckle.

"A few more days in here and you'll be back to your normal asshole self" Stefan smirks at his brother.

"How nice, I can feel the love" Damon says sarcastically laughing.

Alaric starts packing his camping gear and throws it into his truck and starts it speeding down the road back towards town where he's hours away in the middle of the bush.

He continues looking at the road and his phone (don't text and drive!) waiting for any updates on Y/n's condition. He taps the steering wheel repeatedly starting to feel more anxious about seeing everyone again.

He will admit that he hasn't been around as much as he should have but having to leave town often to hunt any vampires deciding to go on a killing spree does get in the way of seeing the kids.

Ever since Jenna died he's lived on auto pilot, just trying to go a day without thinking about her and Y/n is exactly like her. You can tell that Jenna was around a lot when Y/n was growing up because the two talk the same and have the same sarcastic humour when they need to.

Being around Y/n is like having a part of Jenna back and as much as he misses his passed on girlfriend, having someone so similar to her around starts to eat at you bit by bit and brings back to many memories but right now the Gilbert's need him and he'll sure as hell be there.
