Sunday, Dan doesn’t show.

Eve calls to inform him that she wants him to leave the house for a few days. Two days would be enough for her to pack some things and find somewhere temporary to live. Perhaps that condo is still available. It is over between them.

When Dan answers, he tells her he is too sick to come to the chalet. Does this mean he can’t come or is this his way of saying he isn’t coming? Eve is fed up about his reluctance to be clear and informs him that if he’s not coming, then it’s over, whether he has a stomach ache or not. She says “it’s too bad, because things could be easy between us”.

He replies that he doesn’t think they could be easy because the foundations of their relationship are mud.

She asks him if he is gay.

Dan says “no,” and after a long hesitation and an ill man’s moan, “I made a mistake. I’m so sorry Eve.” Now that he is saying it out loud, he knows he had been cruel. “I cheated on you.”
