—————————————————————————All the hermits were yelling at each other. But why?
It was game night. Something that rarely happened in Hermitcraft with all the busy schedules and lack of time.
Game night only ever happened when there was an horrible storm that promised to destroy anyone that was outside. That's why Xisuma and Joe made the community building, to make sure that in storms like these the hermits could easily be counted and kept safe.
This community building was stacked with food and other provisions, comfy sleeping spots, cubbies for when you needed extra clothes, and most importantly: games.
These games are what kept some from going absolutely crazy having to stay inside all day.
But others were driven crazy by these particular games, Ren being one of these few people.
He hated the shouting that came with the games, and everything was always too loud. But luckily he was always allowed to go sit in the sleeping courters or another space if he wanted to.
He always chose to because everything was too loud. That was also why he hated storms and thunder so much. The noise was just too much for him and his enhanced senses.
Everyone knew he hated storms, but not that it was because of the noise. So when Xisuma asked everyone to stay in the main common room so he could keep an eye on everyone, Ren was obviously took it pretty hard.
He knew the others would end up playing monopoly or some other game where they got very competitive. Then it was only a matter of time before they started yelling.
"X? Is there really no way I could go sit in the other room?" Ren asked his admin in a timid voice.
"I'm sorry, Ren, but this is gonna be a very bad storm and I don't want anyone sneaking off like last time." The admin explained his reasoning, shuddering when he said 'last time'.
"But you know I would never leave! I hate storms!" The wolf hybrid tried arguing.
"I know! But if I make one exception, others will want those exceptions as well!" X tried to explain his thoughts.
"Fine... It's fine I guess..." Ren walked away discouraged and scared of what was about to commence. All the yelling and thunder... it made him shudder to think about all the sounds that he knew would soon overwhelm him.
He decided his best option was to sit in the corner farthest away from the big table where the games were played.
The corner was loud with wind and rain, but he thought it might be better than being directly next to a group of shouting people.
The further into the night it got, the louder the wind howled in his ears, and the louder the hermits began yelling.
They had finally pulled out monopoly, and a full blown argument between False and Iskall began. One landed on the other's plot but didn't want to pay because the other was in jail.
The other hermits were starting to take sides in the matter, and it was getting louder and louder.
The wind kept howling and the hermits kept shouting. Until a horrible crack across the sky shut everyone up for a second.
Ren was scared half to death, and covered his ears as quick as he could, while the hermits playing monopoly continued their argument.
All the sounds got louder, all his thoughts got louder, all the lights got brighter, all the scents got stronger, and it made him panic more.
This was the exact reason Ren never stayed in the main room. It was horrible, and he always knew that if he stayed he would have a panic attack.
Nobody quieted down, nobody helped, nobody noticed. A tear rolled down his cheek, followed by quite a few others. He felt alone. But the yelling reminded him he wasn't alone.
It felt like the argument was right next to him, right in his ear. And the thunder sounded like he was in the thundercloud himself.
He curled into a ball and covered his ears the best he could while silently praying for this nightmare to be over.
Yet no one noticed. Until someone did.
They slowly approached him, thinking it might be the storm scaring him. They spoke softly, but it sounded like shouting to Ren.
"Are you okay?" Doc asked him in his very German accent.
Ren wished he could respond, but everything was too loud. He breathed heavily and waited for something to happen. To hear another thunder crack, to hear the shouting hermits, to hear Doc's concerned question again...
He couldn't make out what Doc said next. He couldn't focus his brain enough to make out words. All he heard were sounds. Just loud sounds.
He didn't look up to Doc anymore, too far gone in his panic. Until someone forced a pair of noise canceling headphones onto his ears.
This helped immensely, but the suddenness of the motion scared him.
He kept breathing as best he could, trying to regulate his breathing so he didn't pass out. He felt lightheaded, but all the loud sounds were muffled.
He stayed there for a while, not looking up or moving, just enjoying the sound of almost silence.
When he did look up he saw Doc sitting across from him, not staring at him, but making sure he was okay.He was extremely thankful to Doc that he had noticed and had stepped in to help him.
The creeper hybrid opened his arms slightly, signaling he could have a hug if he wanted one.
Ren took the offer immediately and almost flung himself at his friend. Doc hugged him tightly, making him feel safe and grounded once again.
They stayed like that for the rest of the night, and when things got a bit too loud, Doc would squeeze his friend extra hard, and send X a message to tell the others to quiet down.
When in the morning both Ren and Doc were found asleep cuddling in the corner on a beanbag, plenty of pictures were taken, even if no one would admit to it.
