—————————————————————

Gem and Pearl wanted to run away.
No, they needed to run away.

Watchers were slowly taking over the server, starting from the world border. There they found a crack in the protective wall and slowly began opening it up.

X had warned them all of the danger, letting them choose themselves whether they would stay to fight, or if they would run and escape.

Most people stayed to fight, even Grian, who was once a watcher.

Gem couldn't fathom how much courage he needed to stand up to his former captors.

Meanwhile, she was scared. She couldn't think of a world without Pearl.

So she convinced to other to run away with her. She came to Pearl's base late at night, creeping around on the dark.

She knocked on Pearl's window to rouse her from her deep sleep. Begrudgingly, a sleepy Pearl opened the window.

Gem wasted no time in climbing inside, away from the cold of the freezing wind that stung your cheeks and ears without the right protection.

Winter seemed to have come early to the Hermitcraft server, blowing icy wind across the lands. Everyone bundled up when outside, waiting and watching as the day the watchers invaded came closer.

As Gem thought about all this Pearl went to make some tea to warm the two of them up.

When Pearl came back and handed the mug to Gem, she had made up her mind to convince her friend to run.

She sipped her tea before asking, "Pearl, do you want to stay and fight?"

Pearl thought and mumbled her answer, "not really if I'm brutally honest."

Gem's job became a thousand times easier now she knew Pearl didn't wish to stay.

The moth saw Gem's small smile at her sentence. "I just don't think it's very likely Hermitcraft will win against an army of watchers." She explained, taking a sip of her hot beverage.

"Yes, those were my exact thoughts. Why fight if you could also run and begin anew, away from any danger?" Gem responded with an even bigger smile than before. "It's just like starting a new season."

Pearl nodded as she stared into her half-full cup.

Gem saw and her smile slipped off her face, a worried expression replacing it. "What's wrong?"

"I- I just feel a bit guilty about leaving the rest to fight. What if we made the difference in the fight? You are a great fighter..." Pearl explained her thoughts doubtfully.

Gem sighed and realized her job still it might be as hard as she thought. "Sometimes I feel slightly guilty as well, but then I just think about the fact that we wouldn't stand a chance against those- those beasts."

Pearl looked up to her best friend, trying to think the way she would.

Gem continued on, "and I know it isn't exactly brave, but at least it isn't suicide, marching off to battle is." She frowned, the thought of her friends marching off to battle disturbed her. "We'd never get to live the rest of our lives and really enjoy it!"
