RABYA
"Do you want more, paranthe?" I asked Adhrit while serving him the breakfast.
He shook his head.
I took a step back and peaked through my veil. All the relatives of Adhrit went back to their place and even though there are numerous servants, the house seems empty but breathable at the same time.
I bit on my lips and went back to the kitchen. Taking out jalebi and putting them into plate, I passed it to him. Either he didn't notice me or not fond of the sweets because not for once he look at it. Tapping my fingers against my thigh, I decided to serve him the jalebi.
"I don't like them." He mumbled, stopping me in the middle of serving but still, I put them in the corner of his plate.
He turned to me and even though I couldn't see his face clearly, his eyes widened a little in suprise. "I'm sorry for snapping at you yesterday." I cleared my throat.
He nodded.
I nodded back, awkwardly.
After he gave me the painting that he made for me, I don't know what happened. I stayed awake whole night wondering about him. If I try to understand him then he might not be a bad person but the thing is I really don't have enough energy for that. I'm tired of all that had happened to me. My shattered dreams, my father's death, everything drained me of the happy spirit I once had. Now, I'm not sure if I've the emotional capacity to act normal when my heart is robbed of all the normalcy.
I don't know Adhrit Singh Chauhan and even if someday he happen to tell me, I don't wish to hear. I can try to be the wife he expects me to be, I can give him my body but not my heart. If I've to live rest of my life being caged up in this house, with him, I'll try to submit myself to him but I don't think I'll ever be ready to have child with him or anyone for that matter. I can't.
I've aborted the child and maybe it was for the best. Honestly, when I found out that I'm pregnant, I didn't feel any motherly emotion. I might sound selfish but I didn't want to bring the child into this world. No child deserves to be born to an emotionally unstable parents.
I was lost in my thoughts when all of sudden I felt black dots flashing infront of eyes. I blinked multiple times to compose myself but then my head started spinning and I was about to lose my balance and fell down on the floor when a hand gripped my arms and helped me to stand back on my feet.
"Are you okay?" I heard Adhrit's voice.
"Y-Yes." I replied, slightly shaking my head. "I guess I should go inside—" I added, feeling my body becoming lighter and a sharp headache hit me.
I turned to leave but then stopped in my tracks when I realised that his hand was still around my arms.
"Come and sit on the table, Rabya." His voice echoed.
I raised my brows. "I don't get it."
"You haven't eaten anything since last two days. Sit and have your breakfast." He demanded.
I became uneasy with this sudden change in him. This is morning unlike that night when I had dinner with him, today all the servents are present here. I caught back my tongue to not ask him that what if I sit next to him on the table and have breakfast, won't his reputation will get a taint?
"I'm not hungry really. I'll do my breakfast in room." I whispered, slowly pulling my arms away from his grip.
"You could've fainted. Now sit and have the food."
