RABYA
"Adhrit?" I tapped on his shoulder.
He turned his face to me and then sighed. "My father."
I knitted my brows in confusion. "Your father?"
"Yes, he's back to the village." He clenched his jaw then released a deep breath. "I-I've to go back. I'm sorry. I'll just-"
"Wasn't he dead?" I asked.
"No, Rabya. He wasn't. After the death of my mother, he married another woman. He went away to live with her and shoved all the responsibility of our village on me. From acres of our land to every other thing, I was asked to take care of it. I never really talked to him after what happened with my mother. Then after years, I heard the news that he was behind the bars for gambling or something I don't know. I didn't get him released from the jail purposely. I was twenty at that time. He was angry with me and slapped me once he came out of the jail. He said that he'd disowned me if only his wife was willing to live in the village. After that he went back to his wife and I never heard of him again until right now...." He spoke in a mechanical voice.
"You were waiting for him to return, don't you?" I asked.
He gave a small nod.
"Why?"
He shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe because I want to look into his eyes and say it loud that he was reason why my mother killed herself. I want to hurt him, Rabya. I want to hurt him for hurting my mother."
He gets up from the bed and pulled down a T-shirt over his body. "Or maybe, I was scared all along to face him. Deep down I knew that if I choose to leave that village then he'll come back to haunt me."
"Adhrit."
"Yes?"
"You're behaving weird." I spoke, getting up on my feet and holding his hands.
His sweaty fingers molded perfectly into mine and I squeezed them gently to comfort him. "It's okay. Please don't panic, everything's going to be alright."
He swallowed a lump down his throat. "You don't know that man, Rabya. I-I...."
I gave him a tight smile. "But I know you."
He pinched the bride of his nose. "I better get going, I'll see you next week, okay?" He leaned closer to press a kiss on my forehead.
"Hold on. Do you really think I'm going to let you go there all alone?"
"He's my father. It's not like he's going to kill me. Don't worry." He tried to smile but failed, miserably.
"I'm coming with you too." I said.
"No."
"Yes."
"Rabya, you're not coming. That's the end of the debate. I'd lose my fucking mind if that man dares to say a word against you."
I frowned.
He was always there with me whenever I needed him and now that I know that he's going to need me, he's pushing me away. Even if he's concerned about me, how can I let him go there when he has clearly admitted that he wants to hurt his father?
