RABYA

“Don't worry okay?” He whispered.

I nodded, tears gathering in my eyelids. “Thankyou for everything.” I replied.

He passed me a tight smile. “I'll be back by tomorrow.”

When he left, I returned back to my house. Reha called Adhrit to told him about the reports of my mother which diagnoses that the cancer cells had returned in her body. At first when he informed me about this, my heart sank deep into the pits of my stomach and fear latched my senses. The thought of losing Maa too after Baba invaded my mind but Adhrit made me calm down. He told me that he's not going to let anything happen to my mother. We've just returned from from one of the best hospitals of the country. Apparently his friend, Saad Hafiz is a doctor there and he made it possible to get an appointment from the cancer specialist team who's going to treat my mother.

I don't know how to thank him for everything. Even if I've tried, I would've never been able to afford the treatment cost let alone get the appointment from that hospital.

Adhrit had to go somewhere. He was in hurry, he didn't tell me much. He received a call from someone and all he said to me that he has to attend a funeral.

“Are you going to stand here like a damn statue?” Reha voice snapped me out of my trance.

I shook my head and sat on the couch while every pair of eyes turned to my direction. This is my own home but I don't feel like staying here anymore.

“He's a good person. I hope you're treating him right.” My aunt spoke.

I know he's a good person.

“I'm tired.” I excused myself and rushed back to my room.

I lay down on the bed and pressed my eyes shut. “Don't, please. I've no energy left in me to hear anything from you, Reha.” I whispered when I saw her closing the door behind her as she enters the room.

“What lie did you sugarcoat your husband that he's being kind to us, Rabya?”

I ignored her.

“How can you be happy after destroying my life?” She sneered.

I opened my eyes and looked in her direction. “What made you think that I'm happy?”

“Oh, you think that I don't know you, sister? You fucking frowned when you saw your husband leaving.” She rolled her eyes.

“Isn't this what I'm supposed to do? I'm married to him.” I answered.

“Ah, married to some uneducated man. Tell me, how do you feel after knowing that the man you're married to is twelfth fail? You were sleeping with the guy of your age who was doing his Mtech along with you. How do you feel to get tied down with a man who's a decade older than you and an illiterate compared to you, Rabya?” She chuckled, grabbing a seat on the chair.

I blinked, not liking the way she talked about Adhrit. It felt odd in my chest to hear something against the man who was nothing but kind to me.

“Adhrit is a good person.” I blurted out in defence.

She raised her brows. “Why? Did he fuck you good?”

Irritation seeped through my veins. Why she's doing this to me? I know that because of me she's the one to suffer most. She was snatched of her freedom, her job, her father. But why she has to be so much bitter to the point that she—
