RABYA

"How are you, Maa?" I asked, clamping my hands together, standing at a distance while Reha gets to sit beside her hospital bed.

She nodded mekely.

"Just a little more then you'll be out of here, okay?" Reha whispered, brushing her short hair aside.

Though my mother's face was pale and weak, I could see the betterment in her health since the last time.

The doctor entered inside the room and asked couple of questions to her before turning to me. "Don't worry, you mother is in the good hands. Her body is responding positively to the chemotherapy. Dr. Hafiz had personally requested me to treat your mother." He smiled.

I nodded, whispering my gratitude to him.

"I'd be back." I said to Reha and walked to the reception.

"Is Saad- I mean Dr. Saad Hafiz is free right now?"

"Yes, to the left, you'd find his cabin." She smiled warmly.

I went to his cabin and knocked on the door before stepping inside. Upon seeing me, his eyebrows shot up. "Rabya? Are you here to see your mother?"

"Yes." I replied and sat across the table when he gestured me to do so.

"Thankyou so much, Saad. I really don't know what to say but my mother, she was looking much better than before. I would've never been able to afford to get her treated here but Adhrit took care of everything. I'm equally greatful to you as I'm to him." I said, my lips trembling as I tried to hold back my tears.

"You're family." He smiled. "You don't need to thank me."

My heart warmed at his words. Family.

I've gained so much from my marriage. My binoculars for friendship never considered friends holding as much importance as to consider them as family but maybe not every relation needs to be bonded by blood to be called family.
I've gained group of people who are my family too.

Fidgeting with my fingers, I decided to take another help from Saad. "There's something that I wanted to ask."

"Sure."

"Will Adhrit forgive me for breaking his trust?" I blurted out.

His lips twitched at my question and he took a moment to read my face before saying. "I hope you don't hurt him, Rabya."

"No. I swear, I'm never going to hurt him, intentionally. It's just there's something about which I haven't told him and now I'm debating if I should tell him or not?"

He clenched his eyes shut then released a deep breath. "I've read your article on gender equality which was published by some international organisation. I was impressed by it and decided to repost it on my socials but then your name caught my attention. At first, I thought that it might be someone else but then I clicked on the page and found your passport size photograph at the bottom."

My heart sank in my chest. "Have you told him?"

He shook his head. "It's not my secret to share, Rabya."
