RABYA
"Adhrit, are you even listening to me?"
I asked, positioning the laptop on the bed so that he can see me clearly while I sprawl on the bed."Get up. You're not going to sleep before having dinner, Rabya." He said in a stern tone.
I yawned. "But I had burger in the evening and now-"
"Rabya." He cut me in middle.
"Please, I'm so tired. I had a long day. First the classes then I had to complete all my backlogs." I tried to reason him but his eyes narrowed as if he was threatening me to end the video call if I don't listen to him. "Fine, I'll eat it. Just give me a moment." I scoffed.
He smiled. "Good."
"How was your day?" I asked, snuggling my head on the pillow then peaking at the laptop screen.
"As usual." He paused. "There's this girl, hardly twelve or thirteen, she came to me today and asked if it is possible for her to study further."
I knitted my brows. "I don't get it."
"There's no school in the village. It takes more than two hours to reach the nearest town which also only had one government primary school. You know the situation here, people don't want to send their daughters to school and maybe the inaccessibilty is one of the reasons. This girl had completed her primary education by living at her maternal uncle's house but now she's back to our village."
"Oh." I wetted my dry lips and my mind wandered forwhile before an idea struck me. "Adhrit."
"Yes."
"What about the NGO? The one about which you told me?" I asked, maintaing a innocent face as if I haven't read his chat where he asked his friends to help him with it.
His lips dipped into faint smile and he ran his fingers through his hair. "Uh, there's this thing that I want to talk about. You see, I kind of wanted to do something for you and maybe impress you too. I'm so sorry but I lied when I said that I'm already planning to open the NGO. When I saw you getting excited about it, I asked Agatsya to help me in opening one. So, it's under process. I'm working on the paper works and-"
I pretended to act surprised but then smiled, genuinely. "Thankyou."
His Adam's apple bobbed down and he gave me a small nod. "What were you saying?"
"Adhrit, I was thinking that what if we open that NGO in your village? I mean, instead of some other place, what if there's NGO for little girls where they can get their basic education along with helping their young mind open to the world of STEM education?" I asked, biting on my lips.
He listened to me carefully and then for a couple of seconds thought something before speaking. "I don't know. I mean, your idea is good but how are we going to ask the villagers to send their daughters to our NGO? They're never going to agree for it."
