And don't forget to listen to the song!

RABYA

It was around midnight when the room's door flew open and Adhrit entered inside. He didn't look at me nor did he played the song on his cassette player. He simply turn off the lights and lay down on the couch with his back facing me.

I bit on my lips in anticipation. What am I supposed to do now? Apologise to him or thank him for what he did today? I don't know what exactly to do but all I want is to talk to him.

Getting up from the bed, I switched on the lights. "Adhrit...."

"Not now, Rabya." He said the second I took his name.

"Please listen to me." I closed my mouth shut when he gets up from the couch and released a sigh.

"Do you have any idea-" He stopped in the middle when his eyes fell on my face.

He clenched his jaw, his nostrils flaring in anger. My heart fell into the depth of my stomach and I felt like throwing up, realising that he is infuriated at me.

I clamped my hands together in fear when he took steps towards me and the moment I saw his hand reaching for me, I succumbed to fear that he was going to hit me but instead he gently held my face and observed my bruised lips and imprint of the slaps on my cheeks.

Oh.

"Why? Why did you lie to me, Rabya?" He asked, making me sit on the edge of the bed while handing me the ointments.

I stared at the tube of ointment in my hand for awhile before shrugging. "My family warned me not to tell you anything. I-I was scared that you might hit me or throw me out...." I paused. "I know I shouldn't have lied to you and I also know that you might be disgusted to know about my past-"

"I'm not disgusted. I'm disappointed that you lied to me when all I did was to try my best to make you comfortable." He said in a heartbeat.

Ever since my father died, everyone was against me. My mother, my sister even the world was against me for being a shameless daughter who took the life of her father by getting pregnant before marriage and tarnishing the reputation of her family. But this man. How easily he told the world that I was pregnant with his child? It was as if he was against the world for me.

Even after coming from a regressive society and not being thoroughly educated, he did something for me which no one could ever do; he cared for my respect not for his reputation.

"Tell me was there any single moment when I acted in a certain way that made you scared of me? When you told me that you aren't virgin, did I make you feel that I'm displeased with you?" He asked, his eyes still lingering over my bruised face.

I shook my head. Offcourse, you never made me feel any of it, Adhrit. Maybe I was too lost in my pain to even consider this.

"Then why didn't you tell me? I don't care that your family lied to me but you? I should've been the one to know all about you. I should've- atleast then no motherfuc- nobody dared to humiliate you like this, Rabya." He spat, taking out a deep breath in frustration.

I opened my mouth to say something but seeing the hurt in his eyes, I pursued my lips together. So, instead, I handed him the ointment back. "Will you apply it?"

He didn't say a word but when his fingers touched my bruises, I closed my eyes shut. I don't about the bruises on my face but for sure, he was soothing my heart.
