Shameer's POV
I spin my chair to face the window to see the skyline of the city. Karachi was a gorgeous place. It was just hard to find good people.
I think about what Farjaad said. He isn't wrong. But out of this city or even country, how will I find a woman that can live up to my stantards for a year. As soon as I'm about to close my eyes, I hear a knock on the door snapping me out of it.
"Come in," I say warily.
It was Zubair Ali. One of the richest men in the city (after me of course) who ran a business of catering. He's had a bad love life as his wife ran away leaving him and his daughter for another man. He's always in a mood.
"Good evening." He reaches out his hand.
I stand up and shake his hand, "Good evening."
"What brings you here today Mr Ali?"
"I was going by so thought I'd come say hello and ask how things are going."
"How kind of you. Well things are alright, except just a little drop in profits."
"How much is 'little', Mr Jafri?"
"Two big investors."
"Oh. Well that isn't little, is it?"
"No," I say with a cold, stern voice.
"Everything running smoothly for you?" I ask.
"At work, yes. But at home...not so much."
I stare at him puzzled. "
"What seems to be the problem at home, Sir?"
"Well you know about Mahnoor..." he says with a great sigh following.
"Who's Mahnoor?" I ask, curious.
"My daughter...I wish she wasn't my daughter."
"Well that's a little harsh don't you think?"
"Nothing is harsh enough for her. She's got me all worried. She studies well and gets good grades but she's very unserious and fantasises about love. Love is nothing but bullshit. She's at the age of marriage but has no plan of it. She thinks her 'Prince Charming' will come and find her but that's the most unrealistic ideology yet. I NEED to get her married before things get worse and her age for marriage ends. It's hard to find someone that can put up with her."
"Well I have connections, so I can see if I find someone suitable."
"Thank you so much Mr Jafri."
"No worries. See you later."
He left looked a little more relaxed you could say.
*****
I kept thinking about what Farjaad said to me. It was going to take a long time for me to find someone suitable. I needed someone with similar status to me. But they're weren't many females in the elite positions. It occurred to me that many people in the industry were men with daughters. I could marry one of them, use them, and let them free. Easy.
But no one was going to wed their daughter off to...me. Well-known for his merciless behaviour. Cold, rude and unemotionless. I needed someone who needed a husband or son-in-law.
*ringtone starts ringing*
"Hello."
"Hello Mr Jafri, it's me Mr Ali. Zubair Ali. I wanted to talk about something regarding the topic we were discussing earlier today."
"Go ahead."
"If you do find someone, please make sure they are of a reasonable age because media will come after me if I married her to a 60 year-old man."
"I have found your daughter a suitor."
"Who is it? Do I know him? Is he of suitable age?"
I take a deep sigh before I say...
"You're talking to him right now."
The line goes silent.
"Hello." I say thinking he has some signal issues becasue that's never been the case for me.
He finally speaks, "Um, do you mean...you?"
"Yes. Shahmeer Jafri."
"But you never wanted-"
"To get married?" I cut him off.
"Yes. That's what you said to the media when they asked if you were going to have an heir."
"Look Mr Ali, I need profit and for that I need a wife so people think I will have a child. That's more than enough to convince them to invest in my company. You need a suitor for you daughter. Someone who can discipline her. I think I can do that best."
"Yes, but I'll have to think about it.
"I'll hire you to cater for my hotels. How does that sound."
"Great, have the papers ready Mr Jafri."
"Don't worry about that."
"You don't know how much this will help. A whole burden lifted from my shoulders."
"Thank you aswell Mr Ali. I'll see you soon."
I hung up.
I obviously leave out the part where I divorce his daughter after a year or whenever my business is back up and running. It was easier than I thought. He definitely isn't emotionally attached to his daughter if he's so reluctant to give her away. But I'm not complaining as it makes my job easier.
At least I'm going to have a 'wife' in a few days. Lord, even the thought of having a wife made me sick.
