Mahnoor's POV
I sat on the bed, terrified. I'd locked the door like Shahmeer told me, but I felt uneasy. My volume was on aswell just in case but it only made me more scared. Shahmeer told me to change and get ready for bed but I didn't feel like it. I couldn't bring myself to it. I didn't know what was happening downstairs and his dad horrified me. The way he looked at me, the way he tried reaching for me and the way he spoke to me just made me overall extremely uncomfortable. I mean Shahmeer had warned me that his dad wasn't a nice guy but it seemed as if he was drunk. His words were slurred and he was struggling to stand straight. I was too scared to stay here any longer.
I opened the door to check if anyone was outside my door. Luckily the coast was clear so I walked out. I heard them talking.
"I'm only here for a month."
"Whyy?" He was definitely drunk.
"Not for you to know. All I'm here to tell you is stay away from her."
"Who's 'herrrr?'"
"Don't act stupid."
I felt a presence behind me and before I knew it, two hands were grabbing onto my arms. I turned to see two male, bulky guards - one on each side of me.
"HELP! SHA-"
They covered my mouth with their hands and started dragging me up the stairs to the second floor. I tried stopping myself but my feet were aching from my heels and I couldn't take them off since they had a buckle. I heard loud footsteps rushing up the stairs and I saw Shahmeer with two guns in his hands, one pointing at each of the guards.
"Let her go." I heard the anger in his voice but the guards refused to leave me. He looked at me, dead in the eye. He looked pissed.
The memories of Rohail from today came to my mind again and again making it worse to cope with. My wedding had just ended and it was already a disaster.
I couldn't breathe. I couldn't scream for help.
I could no longer feel the hands on me but my body gave way. I closed my eyes and embraced myself to fall but I didn't?
"Mahnoor?!"
"Mahnoor?! Can you hear me? Mahnoor, wake up!"
I open my eyes to see Shahmeer looking at me. Worried? Mad?
"Why the Hell did you come out the room when I specifically told you not to?" His arms were wrapped around me holding me, mid-air and I turned to both my sides only to see the two guards knocked out on the floor, groaning in pain.
I just ignored him. I had no reason to answer to him. He stood me upstraight, grabbed my hand and took me to the room.
"LET ME GO SHAHMEER!"
"Answer me first. Why did you come out the room. I told you not to, didn't I?"
"CALM THE FUCK DOWN! I COULD'VE DIED AND YOU'RE MAD AT ME!"
"Exactly. You could've died. Do you have any idea how embarassing that would be for me? 'Shahmeer Jafri's wife found dead on the first night of her marriage.' Are you in your senses Mahnoor?"
"OH! So that's all that matters to you. Your reputation, your respect. Sorry for miscalculating your business for kindness. Next time, I won't ask for your help."
"Mahnoor- look that's not what I meant."
"No need to explain yourself." I walk past him and he grabs my hand but I manage to release my hand from his grip. I sit on the bed and grab my phone to avoid conversation. He comes around to the other side of the bed and takes his shoes off and laid down.
"What on Earth are you doing on the bed?" Is he really gonna lay next to me?
"What does it look like? I'm obviously about to sleep Mahnoor."
"Not here. Sleep on the sofa."
"Why don't you?" Me? Is he crazy. I'm not sleeping on the sofa for sure.
"Why can't you?"
"My legs hang off the sofa."
"Not my problem. Go." He just stares at me.
"What are you looking at? Go!"
He grabs a pillow and the blanket that was placed on the edge of the bed. He sits on the sofa and stares me dead in the eye.
"What are you looking at? Sleep." He sighs and brings his legs on the sofa, half of them hanging off.
I power off my phone and get up to get ready for bed. I sit in front of the dresser and take off my heavy jewellery starting with my earrings. My earlobes were aching. After taking off my makeup, I tried to undo the bun that was secured with probably 100 bobby pins.
"Mahnoor, turn the light off." I turn to see him looking at me with heavy eyes.
"I would if my hair cooperated with me. These stupid pins are everywhere." I turn back around and try to take more out but I see his reflection walking towards me through the mirror. He stops just behind me and meets my gaze in the mirror. He gently starts to fiddle with my hair and take out the bobby pins.
"What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" His tired voice lingered in the room.
"Are you seriously that impatient that you can't wait five minutes for the lights to go off?"
"Whatever you say, love." Strands of my hair fell as he continued to take the pins out. He looked so concentrated and it looked as though he knew what he was doing. Every move he made was so smooth and he didn't tug on my hair once. He proably wanted to get it over with since he was tired and wanted the lights off but at least I didn't have to do it myself. I didn't know one could be so impatient.
________
After a few minutes, all of the pins were out and infront of me on the dresser. He lightly ran his hair through my hair taking out any knots.
"Done. Now quickly change and go to sleep."
The walima was tomorrow and I was so tired of this. I thought being the bride would be fun but not in this case. Having to be forced into this and having an alcoholic father-in-law and most of all, a rude and ignorant husband like Shahmeer.
I changed my clothes, washed my face, did my skincare and braided my hair. I was glad the bathroom wasn't a separate room because I did not have the guts to get out of this room on my own.
