Mahnoor's POV

"Ughhh."

I banged my alarm clock till it fell off my side table and shut up. Another morning, another day of Uni.

I dragged myself out of bed with a ton of effort and powered on my phone. 8:45am.

"OH MY GOD I'M GONNA BE LATE!"

I rushed into the shower and most likely broke the record of the quickest shower yet. I quickly dried myself and my hair, brushed my teeth, curled my lashes and applied my favourite lipgloss. I was actually smart and packed my bag the night before. I need to stop reading books till 4am. Somehow, I tell myself 'one more chapter'...it usually ends up being the whole book. At least I finished it.  I was proud of my outfit. It was a white long dress with yellow daisies on it. I snapped out of my thoughts from a piercing shout. My dad.

I grabbed my bag from beside my bed and grabbed my phone and ran down the stairs.

                                                                                  *****

There he was sitting at the head of the table, dissapointed. Again.

"Mahnoor, how hard is it to wake up on time?" he snapped at me.

"Very." I say.

"I know you spend all night reading those disgusting romance books. When I get the chance, I will make sure to burn every single page from your bookshelf." "Live in the present and not in fantasies." "Those books on your bookshelf won't help you take over my business, but the ones you use in Uni will."

"Don't you even dare touch my books, and who says it won't happen in real life, huh?" "Just because Mama left you for another man doesn't mean love isn't real, Baba." "And how many times do I have to tell you...I. Don't. Want. To. Take. Over. Your. Business."

"DON'T EVEN MENTION THAT WOMAN. I DESPISE HER."

"Sometimes I wish, I really wish she took me with her. However bad she was, she must've been better than you!" "One day, when I make my own chain of libraries, I'll make sure you don't get a penny from it."

"Just leave."

"Wasn't planning on staying either."

I storm out the house as fast as I rush to sit in the car.

I started to think if I was too harsh on him. The truth is bitter but at least it's true I guess? He deserved it though. I bet that if anyone asked my dad when my birthday was, he'd change the topic. I bet that if anyone asked him what I don't or do like he would go blank. I bet that if anyone asked him if he's ever fulfilled my wishes, he would look away. I never had a good relationship with my Baba. It only happened when I was 7 and my mum left him for another man. I wish I went with her. I would find her. One day.
