"Are you okay?" Derek asked, his voice softening as he approached you.

You nodded, relief flooding your senses. Nevertheless, your head still pounded and you wanted to hide away from the world.

"Y-yeah,'' you whispered and looked at him. ''Thank you. I-I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't come here...''

Derek's expression remained stern, a silent acknowledgement of the danger that had been averted.

"You shouldn't be alone at a party like this. It's not safe," he said, pursing his lips together.

You sighed, still catching your breath.

''I wasn't alone...'' you muttered, looking down. ''Stiles, Scott, Lydia, and Allison are downstairs... I just needed a break. M-my head hurts so fucking much-''

You cleared your throat and rubbed your face.

''I didn't expect anyone to follow me upstairs... what an asshole,'' you said, shaking your head. You finally looked up at him and took a deep breath. ''And I certainly didn't expect you to come in and save me.''

You chuckled, watching Derek's gaze soften, as a mix of concern and reassurance covered his face.

''I was around,'' he simply noted, crossing his arms together.

You raised an eyebrow.

''Yeah?'' you teased, your voice low and flirtatious. ''What were you just... doing around here?''

The room filled with heat and a strange solace - a reassurance that you were not alone anymore and, as understood, never was. As the party continued to ring in the background, you couldn't help but feel like disappearing from it.

''I was... just around,'' Derek replied cooly.

You hid your face in your hands, making a quiet grunt.

''Everything OK?'' Derek asked.

''My head just hurts,'' you replied, still hidden behind the palms of your hands. You worried about how much Derek had seen. How much he had heard. You wanted to rush away from the moment. ''I'm gonna get some water.''

Amidst standing up, you felt Derek take a step forward. Your eyes met.

''Sit down,'' he said quietly. ''I'll get it for you.''

You watched as Derek moved to the window, pushing it open to let in the cool night air. His silhouette framed against the darkness outside, a silent guardian in the night. With a nod, he disappeared from the room, leaving you alone with your thoughts.

As you waited in the dimly lit room, your mind raced with worries about how much Derek had heard of your conversation with Stiles. You replayed the words in your mind, hoping you hadn't revealed too much. Despite having had feelings for him for so long, you had never crossed the line between your friendship. You were afraid.

Moments later, you heard the sound of footsteps approaching, and Derek reentered the room, carrying a glass of water. He handed it to you, his gaze softening with concern.

"Here," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.

You took the glass from him and muttered words of gratitude.
