The sight of Satoshi shocked the two as it replaced Ayu's empty void with fulfilling warmth. Her eyes enlarged by his brown hair drifted with the cold breeze and his gleaming green pools.
"Satoshi!" A warm heartfelt emotion overwhelmed her chest as she made a run to the brunette boy with a widened smile; the same one that was never for Sasuke.
Don't go.
Ayu stopped abruptly when a hand caught onto her wrist, preventing from leaving. Once she twisted her head around, she saw the hurt across his deadpan face - Sasuke's face.
He realized the intense and the most awkward thing he've done and slowly let go of her wrist, like untying a dog from its leash.
Why on earth did he do that?
Ayu didn't budge by the raven's unexpected grip, utterly confused and struck with his conflicting demeanor. But suddenly she felt another hand grab her shoulder from behind and pull her against his chest.
Satoshi held her protectively in his arm and eyed at Sasuke suspiciously who stood motionlessly from a far. This time, the air between was different, more suspenseful and bitter.
The raven didn't even look at them, not even a single admiring, welcoming look to his best friend like he always have - just a face full of annoyance.
"Thank you, Sasuke," Satoshi suddenly said, making the Uchiha glance at him in wonder. "For watching over Ayu for me."
A forced smile appeared on his lips and then grabbed Ayu's hand, leading her away from the unsettling atmosphere. Looking over her shoulder, she didn't hear the baffled Uchiha make a sound as he stood there alone with eyes glued to the ground. She couldn't help but to feel for him.
"Satoshi, stop." Ayu stopped abruptly, yanking him behind his back when it's finally just the two of them. He stood without a response so she bit her lip nervously. "How... are you here?"
In complete silence, Satoshi directed his vision over his shoulder to her with a smile, surprising her slightly. "Surprise."
"Huh?"
Then he chuckled nervously with his hand shaking his hair. "I planned to come here without you knowing, you know, as a gift to you." But her silence caught him off guard. "You don't want me here?"
She froze by his presumption and then shook her head. "No! I'm glad that you're here. Thank you." Smiling at him, Satoshi didn't change his expression while he eyed her a suspicious look, the same one he gave Sasuke a few minutes ago.
"Can I ask you a serious question? I want you to think carefully before you answer."
Ayu blinked at his words, and nodded thoughtfully.
"What's Sasuke to you? Really."
What is he getting at? What does he have to do with anything?
Stumped by his question, her mind immediately went back to the exact moment when she was alone with him. Was Sasuke really going to kiss her when he has the knowledge that his best friend is her lover?
That can't be.
"He's just a friend," Ayu told him proudly as if annoyed at the subject. But his face didn't stir which it frustrated her. "I know, for certain, that I love you, Satoshi. There's no one else besides you, I can promise you that."
