SELF SABOTAGE // ELIJAH HEWSON

"are your parents home tonight?"

"yeah but i think they're upstairs, eves out on some friends dinner thing... she won't be home until tomorrow" elijah smiled, pressing a kiss to his girlfriends forhead as they approached the hewson house

haiden smiled, taking the key from elijahs hand as she unlocked the door for the both of them. she headed inside first, eli trailing behind with a smug look on his face

the hallway and dining room were decorated to such a standard, if the people didn't know the hewsons were rich beforehand they would now. rose petals lined the wooden floor, the dining table was covered in rose petals, golden balloons and already lit candles. music played softly throughout the kitchen... echoing through the house

"i think we may have interrupted your parents date night" haiden whispered, turning back to elijah as she slipped her shoes off

he laughed lightly and shook his head, brushing his hair back out of his face "god you do amaze me sometimes woman"

"what's that supposed to mean" she gasped playfully, slapping eli on the arm as he hissed

"it's for you! this is the surprise i was planning when you thought i was too busy with gracie you absolute buffoon"

"what do you mean it's for me? shit... did i miss an anniversary, eli you could've told me"

elijah laughed as his girlfriend rambled on, taking her hand and leading her through the hall. he rest his hand on her lower back and lead her over to the table, pouring her a glass of wine that he had his parents prepare in the ice bucket earlier that evening. haiden noticed a small, black box on the end of the table wrapped in a little silver bow. her heart raced, thought flooding through her mind of what it could be

"i'm confused, eli"

"just open the box haiden"

"i'm too scared to open the box"

"why do you have to be so stubborn"

"it's who i am hewson"

"open the box"

"no"

"haiden, just open the box" he laughed

"no you open the box eli"

"it's not my box to open"

"who says it's mine hm?" she raised a brow

"maybe the gift tag that says 'to my haiden' might be a bit of an indicator"

"such a cliche" she scoffed playfully with a smile, elijah nudging her shoulder

what neither of the pair knew was that eli's parents hadn't in fact gone to bed, but we're both stood at the bottom of the stairs completely smitten at the scene unfolding in front of them

haiden took the box, elijahs arm resting around her as nerves shook through his body, she looked up at him hesitantly before pulling the bow from the box itself and revealing what was under the lid. inside was a set of keys attached to a guitar pic.

"i'm... confused? i think?"

"well i found myself a place, a nice little house, and i'm not asking you to move in just yet because i know you just got your own place" he laughed, playing with her hair as she stared up at him, mouth agape

"eli..."

"but i wanted you to have a set of keys, okay? you are my home haiden, and you always will be. and i want my home to be your home too someday... even our home. so with this set of keys i give you access to my life, my safe place and my inspiration as this is all you are to me. you don't have to accept them right away of course but i can't keep it to myself any longer haiden, im so in love with you" he laughed, feeling teary in himself

"you are just so fucking cute, have i ever told you that?"

"i prefer sexy but i'll take it" eli smiled

haiden took the keys out of the box, immediately putting them into her pocket as she stood up on her tiptoes to plant a kiss to his lips. the couple smiled back at each other in adoration as they cheered their wine glasses together, their moment interrupted as applauds were heard from the stairwell.
eli and haiden couldn't help but laugh as they caught sight of alison punishing paul for ruining such a moment 

elijah leaned into her side, planting a kiss on her cheek before whispering "there's already take out in the kitchen"

"my favourite?" she raised her eyebrow slightly

"anything for my favourite lady"

"oh what did i do to deserve you"

"think it's just my raging sex appeal"

"and you ruined it" she laughed as he rolled his eyes playfully at her

the clock hit 9:55pm and the couple had enjoyed their evening together, in peace. they both finished their food (from haidens favourite indian restaurant of course) and their glasses of wine, elijah couldn't take his eyes off her. she was his lifeline.

they both cleaned up their plates, the occasional laughter echoing at one point where elijah thought it was be funny to see how many bubbles he could balance on her head before she noticed... she'd never tell him she knew from the first one, it was worth pretending to be oblivious just to hear that laugh

they ended up on the couch together, under a wonderful heated blanket with a cup of hot chocolate in hand. haiden somehow convinced elijah to sit through a high school musical movie but again, just to see the smile on her face and to listen to her sing along with happiness in her veins... hell he'd take out his own heart over and over again for that smile.

everything felt like it was finally falling into place, but all he had on his mind was the thought of leaving her for this tour... so he messaged the lads with a little proposition

"what're you two still doing down here?" ali asked with a smile, wrapping her dressing gown around her waist

"shh mam, she's sleeping" he smiled, looking down at the young girl who was drooling on his chest

"do you want me to clean everything up for you son?"

"no no, i'll do it in the morning" he smiled "i think we're just going to stay down here for tonight if that's alright"

"of course it is... so you're really serious about her then?"

"i don't think i've ever taken something so seriously in my life" he laughed, blushing lightly "i think she might just be the next hewson if i play my cards right"

"well you better pray you do" ali smiled, giving her son a kiss on the head as they said their good nights
