JASPER AND I LAY ON HIS BED, MY HEAD RESTS ON HIS LEGS. His fingers twist my dark curls. "You know why I like this?" My voice is quiet and I stare out of the window and into the dark woods. The Cullens are out there, hunting. Jasper hums as he awaits my answer. "It reminds me of being human." I feel the fabric of his shirt under my hand.
"Do you miss it, being human?" I turn my head to lay it on his lap and stare up at him. "I don't remember much of it." He strokes his fingers through my hair gently. "It fades away after a few decades into this life." He says quietly. "I don't want to forget being human." He leans down and presses a kiss to my forehead.
"I know, darlin'." He says to me softly and moves back, with a small smile as he admires me. "What do you remember?" I ask him and he closes his eyes as he tries to recall his past memories. "My mother, I remember how kind she was. I don't remember her name, but I remember she would always take care of me and try to make me smile if I was upset." He remembers the memories with a sad smile.
"Does it make you feel lonely, forgetting everything?" Jasper brushes his thumbs over my cheeks. He leans down and presses a kiss to my rosy lips. "No, because I have you, and we can make new memories." The corners of my lips pull into a large smile. I giggle and raise my hands to cover my face.
"That was so cliché." I say with a laugh. Jasper chuckles and pulls my hands from my face. "I thought you liked clichés?" He pulls me to sit upwards, my back pressing against his knees. "I said it was cliché, not that I didn't like it." He smiles at my words and places his cold hand on my equally cool cheek.
His eyes scan over my face, mine do the same to his. Jasper leans forward and his lips interlock with mine. Sparks ignite in my stomach. I move my hands to wrap around his neck and his free hand grips my waist gently and pulls me closer to him. I tug at his blonde hair and he pulls away slowly, resting his forehead against mine.
"I love you, Tallulah." His voice is quiet and I stare into his golden eyes with a soft smile. I will never get tired of hearing those words. "I love you too, Jasper." He holds my hand gently, scared that I will break. I can tell he wants to ask me something, and I know he's been meaning to ask me it for months.
"Did you..." he trails off, looking down. I squeeze his hand gently and give him a small smile for him to continue. "Did you ever want children?" My face falls slightly and I falter. I can feel his heart breaking knowing he can't give them to me.
I let out a breath and smile sadly at him. "I did." His gaze is low. "And I can't give them to you. Darlin', I can't make you the mother you want to be." I place my hands on his cheeks and move his head to look at me. "I can't have kids now." My voice isn't angry, it's sad and quiet. It's not your fault. I say in his mind.
