I STAND AT THE TREATY LINE, LISTENING. Bella's going to visit Jacob and I can't help but feel like something bad is going to happen. I can hear Bella's truck go through the woods and I focus on it. Rain pours heavily over my body but I don't care. "Jake! Hey!" She calls out and I focus on the sound of her voice.
It feels like I'm there, her voice is so loud. My legs lift from the ground and fold, with my arms resting over them. My eyes are closed and I can physically see Bella and Jacob's interaction.
"You cut your hair off?" She asks him, the rain soaking her body, making her green jacket stick to her skin. "And got a tattoo?" Jacob's chest rises and falls quickly. "I thought you were too sick to come outside, or pick up the phone when I call." She says to him.
"Go away." Jacob tells her. "What?" Bella's voice is quiet. "Go away." Jacob repeats. "What happened to you? What's wrong?- Hey! What happened?" Bella stops Jake from leaving. "Did Sam get to you? Is that what's happening?" She asks him and Jacob's face pulls into a cold glare.
"Sam's trying to help me. Don't blame him. But if you want somebody to blame, how about those filthy blood suckers you love; The Cullens." Bella's eyes widen and she blinks, rapidly, as she tries to make words. "I don't know what you're talking about." She stutters out an unconvincing lie and I gently place a hand over her arm.
She flinches slightly and looks around, she looks right through me. She can't see me because I'm not really there. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You've been lying to everyone. Charlie, but you can't lie to me, not anymore Bella." Jacob's name gets called through the woods by Sam.
I turn my head to look at them and Sam calls Jacob's name again with a wave. "Look Bella, we can't be friends anymore." Bella's breath hitches. "Jake I know that I've been-... hurting you. It's killing me- it kills me. I just need... maybe, give me like some time or something?" She says to him and I take her hand.
"Don't." Jacob cuts her off. "It's not you." I let out a scoff at his words. "It's not you it's me, right? Really?" She scoffs. "It is me. I'm not... good. I used to be, a good kid, not anymore. This doesn't even matter alright, this is over." He tells her and she shakes her head.
"You can't break up with me." I raise my eyebrows. "I mean, I mean you're one of my best friends, you promised me." She says to him, her eyes pleading for him not to leave. "I know. I promised I wouldn't hurt you Bella, and this is me keeping that promise. Go home, and don't come back, or you're gonna get hurt." He runs over to Sam and his pack.
My feet touch the ground again and I take a step backwards. How did I do that? The forest surrounds my soaked body. Bella's truck's engine starts and she drives away, tears falling from her eyes. I exit the woods, waiting on the side of the road for Bella to drive by. She spots me and stops the truck.
I open the door and get inside. "You heard?" She sniffles and I nod, leaning forward and turning on the heating. She shivers and her hands grip the steering wheel tightly as the truck pulls off. "Bella you're freezing, let me drive." I say to her and she nods. I place my hand on the steering wheel and slide to the side as she climbs over me.
Bella takes my right hand, holding it gently and nuzzles her head against my shoulder. "If you wanna get warm, I'm not the best idea because I have marble cold skin." She breaks out a small smile and wipes her wet eyes. I take a glance at her with a smile before turning my gaze back to the road.
"How are you feeling?" I ask her softly. "Like crap." She says and I chuckle slightly. "Seriously, how are you feeling? How's the hole in your chest?" She lifts her gaze to look at me. "How'd you know about that?" She asks me and I take another glance at her.
"I have one too." She nods slightly with a sigh. "It was getting better, with you and Jake, it was almost gone. But now Jake's left, it's coming back." She says to me and I drive down the road. "I'm here, you know that right?" She nods her head.
"I'm not leaving, you're stuck with me." I say to her and she sighs. "Can you turn me?" My gaze snaps to hers. "I just think that if I'm turned, I'll meet him again." She says quietly. "Do you think that you'll ever see Jasper again?" I take in a deep breath at his name.
"Maybe? Someday, maybe? But I don't think they'll be back for a while." I say to her and listen to the drops of rain as the hit the truck. "And you're too young to be turned." Bella scoffs. "You're younger than me, you're not even eighteen yet." She says to me and I roll my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever grandma." She rolls her eyes at my words. "If you really want to be turned, I'll do it. Just not now, at least graduate first, and then we can go anywhere you want, leave this place behind, or stay here, if that's what you want." I take a glance at her before continuing.
"Just don't give up your humanity before you've even lived yet."
