THE WIND HOWLS ALL AROUND ME AND MY PHONE BEEPS AS IT DIES. My call with Jasper ends abruptly and the scent of a wet dog overwhelms me. Bella leaves the tent and looks at the wolf that walks towards her. "Hey, Seth." She smiles with a slight wave. I push myself up from my place in the snow.
Edward descends from the woods and walks over to his mate. "Where's Jacob? Did he already...?" Bella trails off and Edward shakes his head. "Not yet, he's checking to see if the woods are clear before he goes." Edward walks over to Bella and stands opposite her. Edward takes a glance at Seth and the wolf runs into the woods.
Edward looks at me and shoves a thought through my mind. I move away, not before he throws me his phone. I catch it and dial Jasper's contact instantly. "Sorry, my phone died," I apologise and walk into the snow covered trees.
I overhear Bella, Edward, and Jake's conversation. Jasper does too. I let out a long sigh. "I'll call you back, stay safe. I love you." I hang up Edward's phone and walk over to him with my hands on my hips.
"Now why would you do that? Edward, that's horrible. You know Jake's not going to be in the right mindset now, he could get himself killed." Edward is quiet, listening in on Bella and Jake. "I don't want him to get killed, I couldn't do that to her. I just want him, to realise that she is in love with me." I let out a sigh and move the pieces of snow from my curls.
"Yes, she's in love with you, but she loves Jake too." I hear as Bella tells Jake to kiss her. Edward freezes slightly. "This is your fault, you can't be mad at her kissing him when you're the one that caused it to happen." Edward sighs slightly. "I'm not mad." Bella slowly makes her way over to us.
I flash her a small smile and walk away, leaving her and Edward to talk. I quickly phone Jasper. "It's gonna start soon, please be careful." Jasper says as he answers instantly. "I'll be watching over you all." I tell him and take in an unnecessary breath. "I love you." I tell him. Please, please anyone listening, don't let this be the last time I tell him.
"I love you too." Seth returns shortly and I read his mind. My stomach drops. I hang up the phone and hand it to Edward. I lift a forcefield around us. The red energy reflects onto my skin, giving it a red glow.
Anxiety washes over me. I brush it away and my eyes glow a deep scarlet. I close them and when they open, I'm standing in the field. My ghost-like body listens to the vampires approaching us. I take Jasper's hand and send thoughts through his mind. It's me, I'm here. He can feel my touch and presence, but can't see it.
I let go of his hand and red energy circles my palms. I jump upwards and as I slam into the ground, red sparks shoot all around me, knocking the Newborns away. Red whisps coat around the one nearest to me and his head gets popped from his neck.
