SNOW FALLS DOWN ALL AROUND ME. It surrounds me, encasing me in its grasp, forcing me to realise that this is really happening. That there is a chance that someone I love will lose their life; that Jasper will lose his life. And it's all because of me and my gift.

Mine and Jasper's hands hold each of Claretta's gently as we walk deeper into the snowy field, awaiting the arrival of the Volturi. Fear is consuming everything in me. My free hand is shaking, with red whisps flickering from each of my fingers.

My eyes are flickering to a glow and fading as I hear the thoughts of the approaching Volturi. "If we get through this, I'm going to need a hot bath." I mumble under my breath, my voice shaking and trembling through the breeze. Jasper looks at me, from beside our daughter who stands in between us, and stares at me softly.

I hear his thoughts; he's memorising everything about me, scanning over every small detail about me. It makes my heart sting and ache, that he feels that he will die, and he must have me to be his final sight before death.

I'm not scared of dying, and I'm not scared for me, I'm terrified for my family. Because the only way to truly hurt me, is to hurt them. Is to hurt Jasper.

Shoes crunch through the snow and I look up to see a large army of cloaks walking towards us at a dramatically slow pace. "The redcoats are coming, the redcoats are coming." Garrett mumbles and I listen to the thuds that are the Volturi walking towards us.

I don't move. None of us do, they come to us. I can hear Aro's thoughts as he looks for Alice and then the disappointment of not spotting her. His red eyes lock on me and harden into a glare.

The wolves howl before emerging from the snowy trees. They growl and walk to stand behind us. The Volturi stop and stare at them. Jake moves to stand in between Bella and I, close to Claretta and Renesmee if they need to run away.

Carlisle slowly moves from his place beside Esme, and stands in front of us all. "Aro." He calls out and places his arms beside him. "Let us discuss things as we used to." Carlisle's voice is kind as he speaks to the King. "In a civilised manner." He says softly to the man.

"Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place given the battalion you've established against us." The Volturi King's voice is sharp as he speaks to the blonde. "I can promise you, that was never my intent." The blonde says kindly and I take a step in front of my daughter as Aro's eyes trail from me to her.

"No laws have been broken." Carlisle tells everyone, causing Caius to scoff. "We see the children. Do not treat us as fools." He hisses out. "They are not immortal!" Carlisle calls out and looks back at all of us. That's a lie, Claretta is 100% immortal, but they can't know that. "These witnesses can attest to that. Or you can look." His voice quiets and he holds his hand out back to us.
