I GENTLY COMB MY FINGERS THROUGH MY DAUGHTER'S CURLY HAIR TO RID IT OF GEL. She's been practicing her pirouette's today, and she managed to do a double without falling. I'm proud of her, but until she can continue to constantly do neat singles, I'm not going to push her to do any more.
I take a bottle filled with rosemary oil and drop the liquid through her blonde hair before rubbing it in with my fingers. "Mamma?" Claretta's voice is quiet and I hum. "Did I hurt you, mio cara?" She shakes her head with a sigh and I braid her curls and tie it at the end with a bubble to let her hair soak up the oil.
"Did aunt Alice and uncle Victor leave because of me?" She asks, her usually loud and smiley voice is quiet and sad. I stare at her with soft and sad eyes. I gently place my hands on her shoulders and turn her to face me. I take her hands. "Claretta, why would you think that?" I ask, my legs folded whilst she stands.
"Because we're going to die." My eyes widen and I stare at my daughter. She shouldn't be thinking about this, she shouldn't worry about death. I pull her into my lap, stroking her freshly braided hair whilst she clings to me. My eyes well with venom and my lip quivers.
"We aren't going to die." I start, my voice is quiet and I stare down at my baby who fears for her life. "You aren't going to die. I promise, Claretta." I whisper into her hair and she hugs me tightly. "Why would you think this?" I keep my hold on her, I don't want her to see me cry. Even though I technically can't cry.
"They just left after aunt Alice had her vision, and it's my fault." I blink away the venom that coats my eye lashes. "It is not your fault, and we aren't going to die. Aunt Alice and uncle Victor left to protect us, which is what these new people are doing too." She nods her head and moves it back to look at my face.
"I'll never let anyone hurt you, mia cara figlia." I whisper out and press a kiss to her forehead. "If you feel worried, talk to your papà and I. We're here, and we'll listen." Claretta nods with a small smile. "Thank you, mamma." She moves from my lap and I stand up, moving over to the bathtub.
"It's nothing, sweetheart. I'll always be here to listen to your worries." I turn on the water, holding my hand underneath for it to be the perfect temperature. I shake my hand and move away to grab the shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask, placing them beside the tub.
"Have a nice bath, you worked hard in class today." She nods her head and I give her one last look and walk out of the room.
The scent of my mate greets me and I look up at him, my eyes clouding over with tears again. Jasper opens his arms and in a second, I hug into his embrace. "She thinks she's going to die Jazz, our daughter thinks that we're all going to die." I mumble into his neck, my voice cracking, and hold onto him tightly. The water is still running which dulls Claretta's heightened hearing.
