After practice, Larissa and David had a discussion where he shared the news that he could attend the homecoming dance. His mother had made arrangements for Mrs. Ortiz to babysit. Although his mother would be working and wouldn't be able to witness him getting ready for homecoming, he didn't let it bother him too much. He had grown used to her missing his games and now...homecoming. He really hoped she would be able to make it to his graduation.
As Larissa made her way up the stairs and down the hall, the silence in her home was deafening. She couldn't help but feel a pang of loneliness as she entered the usual icy cold, cookie cutter, hotel-like atmosphere. But she quickly brushed off the negative thoughts, reminding herself to focus on finishing her senior year and escaping this place as soon as possible.
With Danielle's car parked in the driveway, Larissa was certain she was home. She couldn't wait to share the good news that David would be going to the homecoming dance with her.
"Danielle?" Larissa called out, her voice echoing through the empty house. Silence greeted her, leaving her feeling a sense of unease. She called out again, hoping for a response, but still, there was nothing. Larissa's curiosity got the better of her, and she made the decision to open the door and step inside.
As she entered the room, a heartbreaking sight unfolded before her eyes. Danielle lay on the bed, tears streaming down her face. Larissa hurried to her sister's side, desperate to understand what had happened.
"What's wrong?" Larissa asked, her voice filled with genuine worry. Danielle attempted to compose herself, but her tears continued to flow uncontrollably. Through her sobs, she managed to utter a few words. "He... he pushed me."
"Who?! Brian?!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with fury. Danielle nodded, her crying intensifying. Larissa's protective instincts kicked in, in that moment.
"Why the fuck did he put his hands on you?!" Larissa's voice trembled with a mix of anger and concern. Danielle struggled to articulate her words amidst her tears, her pain evident. Larissa climbed onto the bed, wrapping her arms around her sister, offering comfort and support.
"Tell me what happened. It's going to be okay," Larissa reassured her. Danielle's sobs subsided momentarily as she tried to gather herself. "He cheated on me!" she managed to say between sniffles.
Larissa's heart sank, and she felt a surge of anger towards Brian. "What?! Oh my gosh, Danielle, I am so sorry."
"Just go ahead and say 'I told you so'," Danielle sniffled, expecting a lecture. Larissa shook her head, vehemently. "Danielle, no, I would never say that to you. You gave him a chance because you're a good person. It's not your fault he turned out to be a fuck boy."
Danielle's pain was palpable, and Larissa couldn't help but feel her sister's anguish. "I can't believe this. I trusted him and he does me like this?!" Danielle wiped away her tears, her mascara now smudged.
"I'm really sorry. He doesn't deserve you at all. And he had the nerve to push you, when he's the one who cheated?!"
"After I found out, I threw the phone right at his face."
"I hope you broke his fuckin nose too"
Danielle managed a lazy smile, "Well this is how it all happened..."
