Larissa let out a big yawn and stretched her body, feeling the morning grogginess slowly fade away. It was 9 am, and her alarm clock had just gone off, signaling the start of a big day ahead. She had a packed schedule with a hair appointment at 10:30, followed by a nail appointment at 2:30, and finally, a makeup session with a professional artist at 4. The best part was that the makeup artist would be coming to her home, making it incredibly convenient.

To help calm her nerves, Larissa had asked Danielle to be her chauffeur for the day. She quickly called David, urging him to get up and start his day as well. It was a subtle way for her to check if there were any last-minute changes to their plans. Thankfully, he confirmed that he was coming, and Mrs. Ortiz had kindly agreed to babysit his siblings, relieving Larissa of any worries.

Meanwhile, Elisha had a slightly different start to her day. She made a last-minute trip to the mall to grab a pair of heels that had just come back in stock. Her mother, as always, fussed the entire way there. Once the shoes were purchased, Elisha was dropped off at her hair appointment.

Kendra's routine was quite similar, except she didn't have any last-minute shopping to do. Her mother had been designing a custom-made dress for her since the beginning of the school year. As soon as this dress was finished, Miriam planned to start designing her prom dress.

As the clock ticked closer to 7, the girls meticulously added the finishing touches to their dresses, hair, and makeup, eagerly anticipating the exciting night ahead.

                                                                                   JASON

Jason's family, along with Uncle Brant and his sons, showered him with hugs, kisses, and a few pats on the shoulder before he left. They couldn't stop complimenting how dashing he looked in his all black tuxedo. Despite their praises, Jason was more of a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers kind of guy. After he reluctantly allowed them to snap a few pictures of him and allowed his doting mother to film a video of him, he waved goodbye, feeling uncomfortable with all the attention, and drove off to Kendra's house.

As the clock struck 6:30 pm, Jason parked his car outside Kendra's house. His heart raced with anticipation. Today was the day he would finally meet her parents. With no clue about what to expect, he couldn't help but feel a surge of anxiety. What made it even more nerve-wracking was the uncertainty of whether they were aware of his race. Kendra and he had never delved into discussions about race or their parents' potential reaction to their interracial relationship.

Stepping out of the car, Jason held a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers in his hands. He knew they were her favorite flowers. Giving himself a little pep talk, he silently prayed that her parents would accept him, regardless of his skin color. Taking a deep breath, he pressed the doorbell.

The door swung open, revealing a tall, middle-aged man with a warm brown complexion. Jason assumed this must be her stepdad. The sight of him was quite intimidating, even for someone like Jason.

"Hi, I'm Jason, Kendra's boyfriend" he introduced himself, offering his hand for a friendly shake.

Paul gave him a quick once-over and reciprocated the gesture, extending his hand to shake Jason's.

"Hey Jason, I'm Mr. Paul, Kendra's old man. Well, technically her stepdad, but we don't really use that label around here," he whispered with a warm smile.

Jason nodded, returning the smile. "I get it. Nice to meet you, Mr. Paul."

"Come on in and take a seat. They will be right out."
