The school day ended and Jason dropped Kendra home, with plans to pick her up again at 5 pm. Dance practice and football practice were canceled this afternoon, due to school being closed the next day in observance of Veteran's Day. Jason was happy about that because that meant he did not have to rush to take Kendra back home.
As it inched closer at 4:30, Jason finished freshening up and then left to go pick up Kendra.

Kendra sat anxiously on the couch waiting for Jason's text. Then her phone dinged, alerting her that she got a text message from him, saying he was on the way. Soon there was a knock on the door, and Kendra rose to answer it. Opening the door, she smiled, looking up into Jason's eyes.
"Hi" she greeted him.
"Hey. You look beautiful."
"Thank you, you look great too, as always".
"Thanks. You ready to go?"
"Yea" Kendra said stepping outside and locking the door behind her.
"You nervous?" Jason asked as they walked up to his car.
"Of course" She said, as he held the passenger door open for her. "Don't worry, they'll love you" he reassured her with a smile, looking down at her as she nervously smiled back at him.
They arrived at Jason's house in what felt like no time at all. Jason opened the door for Kendra and gently grasped her hand. With their fingers intertwined, he guided her towards the entrance of his home.
As Kendra stepped inside, she took in the place that Jason called home. It was a moderately-sized house, slightly larger than her own. The foyer had a rustic, yet elegant style. Kendra found it stunning, as if it had been decorated by a professional interior designer.
" Your house is so nice. I love it."
"Thanks." Jason smiled.
Kendra's pulse quickened as she caught the sound of footsteps drawing near from the adjacent hallway. Her gaze fell on a middle-aged white woman emerging into view. Mary Ann's eyes darted back and forth between Jason and Kendra, eventually settling on Kendra's face. In that instant, a whirlwind of thoughts flooded Kendra's mind, as she pondered what the woman, undoubtedly Jason's mother, might be thinking.
"Oh hi! I'm Ms.Mary Ann, Jason's mom." She extended her hand to greet Kendra. Kendra gave her a once over while taking her hand in hers and shaking it.
"I'm Kendra its nice to meet you."
"It's so nice to meet you too!" Mary Ann gave her a wide smile, her eyes scanning Kendra's face at the same time. "My goodness, you are...beautiful", she stepped back and looked Kendra from head to toe.
