Douglas's POV:
March 5th, 2093, 07:15:
Flying over Eastern Russia:Sitting in the pelican, I began wondering why the fuck we were still here. We've been fighting with the C.A. for months now, and I'd much rather be fighting Cerberus. Hm, maybe Via and I could request a transfer, hell, maybe even start our own unit specifically for Cerberus. As I wondered this, I looked back at Via, seeing her rest soundless on her seat.
Then, despite my better nature, I turned to the human, seeing him stare at his knife intently. I swear, he's definitely planning on cutting our throats when we least expect it. I bared my maw at him, even though I was wearing a helmet and he couldn't see it. A shoulder hitting my left side causes me to turn and see Rena looking at me before asking,
Rena: "You look fucking stupid when you do that, you know that, right?"
Douglas: "What's wrong with watching someone who's most likely to kill us when we're not looking?"
Rena (sighs): "You still on that? It's been nearly a whole year, can you not trust any human?"
Douglas: "Why should I trust someone from a different species than me?"
Ruby: "Now that's just racist Douglas."
Of course I get double teamed by them, my own opinions not even having the curtesy of privacy. Then, as I was about to retort, Zero said,
Zero: "Well, I'd say Speciest, but I'm not a dictionary."
Turning to him, I flashed him the middle finger before laying back in my seat, closing the eye's to no longer see these fucks. After a few more minutes of silence with conversations around us, the pilot said,
Pelican pilot: "Alright, we're here...I don't see any Alliance markings or personal anywhere though."
Mariana: "This better not be another Alaska."
Via (groans): "Don't fucking jinx us."
Then, our once fearless leader stood up from her seat and began walking to the ramp while saying,
Chloe: "Get ready for potential hostility."
Rolling my eyes, I start prepping my equipment while thinking of this morning. About three to four hours ago, we left the base when Helena gave us the strangest mission by far. Apparently, a secret Alliance operative hidden behind enemy lines reported something about highly classified information, and needed to transfer said information physically.
Instead of sending another unit more suited for a retrieval mission, they decided to send us. What's even more strange is the fact we're heading to some human town in the Russian country. This town, Talaya, was reported to be a Reaper-free place, and knowing how well those go, this may as well be another Alaska. Why the fuck did we need to come here, why couldn't it be somewhere in Canada?!
The shaking of the pelican landing broke me out of my train of thought, making me raise my rifle. As the ramp lowered, we all got out, scanning the town for any danger. After a moment, the pelican began flying away, going to do it's rounds until it needs to return for extract. After it left, the loudest thing was the wind, since we could find a Reaper here and be killed within an instant.
It was Zero who broke the silence as he said,
Zero: "Good news and bad news, I found out where we're supposed to go."
He didn't say anything else, making me turn and see what he was talking about. There were bodies on the ground, leading into an alleyway. Chloe motioned with her fingers to move forward before walking to it. Shit, we're definitely going to get fucked by something.
