Poem 22: Self-Sabotage

You're incredibly good
You're incredibly sweet
You're incredibly kind
Why are you mine?

I keep anticipating...
The unexpected pain,
A reason to go insane,
And to cry with the rain.

Picking and pointing
Reveals a different side,
One I can't hide,
No matter how hard I've tried.

I pause and contemplate
To evade the sadness,
Summon the badness,
And to keep on being fabulous.

The first step to admitting
Self-sabotage is a real thing,
Worse than a bee's sting
Or straining a hamstring.

The final step is trust,
The biggest hurdle to overcome,
Harder than following a GPS
Or asking someone to the prom.

So, take your time with me,
See the light within me,
Push me forward as I push back,
To realize that I am more than that.
