« So, Peril, tell me how you are feeling. »

Said Osprey.
The old dragon was organizing some scrolls while the young SkyWing looked at him.

« Normal. I just miss my friends. »

Peril said.

« I can finally switch off my firescales on command, yet Scarlet keeps me here. »
« Don't be sad, training to have complete control over your new abilities is really important. »
« But you always told me that socializing is important too, especially for growing dragons. »

Osprey chuckled light-heartedly.

« It is. And I'm really happy you finally found friends to play with. »
« I just wish the rest of the tribe could see me like a friend... »

Peril sighed.

« I don't really care for their opinion. But it's so annoying that they'll act like I'm some kind of heartless monster when I just follow the queen's orders like the soldiers do. And they all still come to see me in the arena, what makes me so much different than any of Scarlet's soldiers going out there and killing someone else's army? »

The older SkyWing sighed and reached to give the dragoness a few pats on the back, seeing that her scales weren't as bright as they were when with firescales active.

« Unfortunately Peril, some dragons can be... hypocritically obtuse and SkyWings' laws don't help. »
« Aren't you an attorney? You should respect the laws... »
« I do. But when you study law, you learn when it is better to question it and oh, there is so much to question in the law that rules this kingdom. »

Once all the scrolls were in place, Osprey and Peril walked to the throne room.

« Our laws order the death of dragonets with too much or too little fire and you could argue that it is for their own good as well. But our laws also call for the death of animus dragons, when we could learn from IceWings, who had many animus and knew how to keep them in check, then they could help those dragonets like... who did you say helped you? »
« Soar. »
« Like Soar helped you. »
« Yeah, I see what you mean. »

Said Peril.
Scarlet had told her to not speak with anyone of Soar's magic, but if there was a dragon that could be trusted with protecting someone's secret, it was Osprey, she knew the old SkyWing was trustworthy.

« So, if you could, you'd change these laws... »
« Oh yes. It would take time for the other SkyWings to open their minds to new horizons, but they would do it, sooner or later. »
« Hey, if they didn't try to rebel against Scarlet for keeping me alive, maybe their loyalty could be useful to not obstruct progress. »

Peril joked.
As they reached the throne room, they saw Scarlet literally bumping her head against her throne, a scroll laid down open at her feet and she looked both furious and worried.

« Your Majesty? Are you alright? »

Osprey asked, getting closer to her as Scarlet quickly picked up the scroll and burned it to a crisp in rage and, he noticed, need to hide something.

« Yes. I'm perfectly fine. »

She growled.

« I'm just worried about this damn war and the dragonets' plan, and... and... »

Scarlet slowly turned to look at Peril.
The queen's mouth curled in a big smile, as if she was suddenly hit with the most ingenious idea she had ever had.

« Peril... my dear Peril. My sweet, sweet champion. My daughter. »

The queen said, gesturing for her to get closer as her voice became as sweet as honey.
Only Osprey and a few guards in the room seemed to notice that something was off.

« What is it? »

Peril asked, her scales lighting up with warmth as Scarlet called her "daughter".

« My darling, you finally have the chance to do something big, something incredible. »
« What do you mean? »
« I got a message from the dragonets... »

"Soar must have sent it with his magic."
Peril thought.

« They need a SkyWing and I know you can be trusted with such an honor. »
