Today was a milestone for their little girl, a day filled with both joy and bittersweet memories. Kierra set aside her grievances with her husband, East, determined to make the most of their daughter's first birthday. As she carefully dressed both herself and their baby girl, a pang of sadness tugged at her heart. They should have been planning a grand celebration, surrounded by friends and family, but circumstances had forced them into a different reality.

"We should have been having a party. She's one now, babe," East remarked, his voice tinged with frustration as he glanced at Kierra. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at his words, knowing that her own troubles had cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion.

"Well, the police are looking for my husband, and my brother-in-law is in some mess as well. Who wants to sit around and pretend to be one big happy family?" Kierra replied, her tone laced with bitterness as she struggled to push aside the weight of their complicated lives.

East shook his head, his expression a mixture of frustration and resignation. They both knew that arguing would only sour the mood further, so instead, they silently agreed to focus on the one thing that truly mattered: their daughter.

Together, they took Kai to the local ice cream shop, the anticipation of sweet treats bringing a glimmer of excitement to the air. As they settled into their seats, Kierra couldn't help but marvel at how quickly their daughter was growing, her once tiny bundle now a curious and adventurous toddler.

"Happy birthday to my favorite girl in the world. I love you," Kierra whispered, pressing a tender kiss to Kai's cheek as she enveloped her in a warm embrace. To their surprise and delight, Kai took her first wobbly steps, a triumphant grin spreading across her face as she reached out for her mother's hand.

"Momma, ma," she babbled excitedly, her laughter filling the air as East looked on with a mixture of pride and awe.

East's mention of needing to return home for work served as a stark reminder of the realities they faced, each burdened with their own worries and responsibilities.

"We should be going home soon. I've got work and shit to attend to," East stated, his voice breaking the uneasy silence that had settled over them. Kierra, unwilling to delve into their problems in front of their daughter, simply nodded in response, her focus on feeding their daughter another spoonful of ice cream.
