Just when Abe is about to arrive, my dad walks through the door, much to my disappointment. "Hi Daddy." I go up to him. "How was work? You look great today."
"Hi sweetie, what a nice greeting, I wish I got this all the time."
"She wants something." My mom calls from the kitchen.
Testing your fortune, their kiddo, we're allowing you to go to New York for the weekend, what more could you need?"
"Hey." A voice comes from right outside the door.
Dad blinks at me, then looks at Abe, who appears to have put effort into his appearance - same jeans as the failed date, but a band shirt I've never heard of, with a half grin on his face. "Theodora, why is there a boy on my porch?"
"Dad, this is Abraham Woodman."
"Diego, right? I see where Thea gets her looks from." Abe says coolly with a nod at my dad, and I knew I'm in trouble.
"Theodora." My dad slams the door, leaving Abe outside on the front porch. "You better get him away from here quickly."
"Oh, she invited him for dinner." My mom chimes in from the kitchen.
"The hell she did."
"He can probably hear you." I walk past my dad and open the door. "Come in."
"No, stay out there." Abe is stopped by my dad just as he's about to step inside.
"Just let him in, they're leaving in less than an hour."
"They?" He directs at me. "They!" He yells back at my mom.
She pops her head in. "Oh, he's going to New York with them."
"The. Hell. He. Is." He turns and slams the door on him again, and storms into the kitchen, where he and my mom began to argue. "How long did you know? You let her go with a boy!"
"I just found out too, and they're going to be with their friend's family, it's not a sex trip."
While they fought, I open the door, letting Abe in. "Thank you for that."
He nudges me. "Sorry, I couldn't help it."
"You said you'd try; I don't even know why I bother." I glance back towards the kitchen, hoping this won't change their minds.
"I'm sorry." He says more sincerely. "Let me go apologize, I really am sorry."
But before I could respond to him, tell him not to bother, my brothers come running in, both holding hangers pretending they are guns. "What are mom and dad fighting about?" Aaron asks, diving behind the couch.
"Thea's sex life, by the sound of it." Caleb hides behind a chair, until he notices Abe. "Oh, definitely her sex life."
"Will you two shut up?" I feel my cheeks burn with embarrassment.
