Old Dunling, the Inner District.
When it comes to the prosperity of Old Dunling, most people immediately think of the Inner District. It's the area where the wealth of the entire Old Dunling is most concentrated. Unlike the central "Royal Area" of Old Dunling, protected by guards and high walls, this is the place where most nobles can finally reach.
Here, electricity covers everything. Even at night, the streets are brightly lit. You can see crowds moving in the tall buildings, their figures cast by the lights onto the ground, spreading out in a hazy and fragmented manner. With steam rising, even on the outskirts of the Inner District, you can catch the intoxicating scent of wine.
The streets are filled with modern automobiles, mostly restricted to the Inner District due to the high demands of the roads. But even so, the wealthy still lavish heaps of money on these seemingly useless things, simply because they represent cutting-edge technology, and that's a symbol of status.
Lloyd sat at the dining table on the balcony, overlooking the city in its peaceful slumber.
This spot was perfect. Sitting here allowed him to observe the entire neighborhood. Although it was already dark, there was no such thing as darkness in the Inner District, where bright electric lights illuminated every corner.
This was the hunter's spot. No matter what anomalies occurred, Lloyd could detect them first. If he had a modern Mechanic's Guild sniper rifle in his hand, he could easily kill everyone in his line of sight from this position.
Of course, Lloyd was a detective, not some cold-blooded killer. He wasn't a psycho who found joy in killing.
The table was already filled with food, now just awaiting the arrival of the other guest.
Glancing at his pocket watch, she was already ten minutes late.
But Lloyd wasn't in a hurry. It was only 11:20 PM, still some time before the night ended. No need to rush.
There were still many pedestrians on the street. Even though it was nearing midnight, it seemed like the beautiful day had just begun.
As Lloyd watched the departing figures, lost in thought, a figure took a seat.
Seeing the elegant figure before him, Lloyd paused for a moment. Then, his etiquette training kicked in, telling him it was time to offer some praise.
"Well... very nice."
The girl in front of him was truly dressed to impress, splendid yet not vulgar, like a socialite who frequented balls.
Lloyd knew the girl wasn't deliberately putting on a show; it was just the different atmosphere she'd grown up in.
So, charisma is really quite mysterious. Lloyd could mimic and impersonate anyone, but that elusive charisma was always beyond his grasp.
"Did you ask me out just to eat?"
Eve looked at Lloyd. This detective was always so mysterious, appearing suddenly and disappearing just as quickly, leaving only a letter about today's schedule.
"Of course, you need energy to work, don't you?"
Lloyd picked up his knife and fork and started eating. This guy really had no table manners, like a hungry wolf.
Eve sighed. People like Lloyd never did anything without purpose; he must have something in mind, he just wasn't willing to say it now.
"Have you done all the preparations I asked for?"
Talking while eating was really unattractive, but Lloyd didn't care about those things anymore. He'd long since forgotten everything from his etiquette classes.
