Like a grand ceremony, the bright celestial light poured down from the deep well above, casting a radiance upon the steel altar. It shimmered through the menacing edges of the sacred armor, leaving twisted shadows on the ground that cloaked everyone present. It stood there, solemn and majestic, like a deceased king.
"This ancient-era sacred armor, derived from the distant technology of the Nine Summers in the Far East. Back then, General Zuo Zhen took the steam technology with him but secretly left us with the sacred armor technology, along with a prototype."
Tesla casually picked up a steel pipe and began pointing at various parts of the ancient-era sacred armor named "New Hope." Due to its size, many parts were out of his reach. Unlike the other ancient-era armors Lloyd had seen, New Hope was colossal, standing nearly three meters tall. Because of its construction time, most of its equipment hadn't been streamlined, and clusters of copper pipes were still visible.
"New Hope was built based on that prototype. Given our different technological foundations from the Nine Summers, we combined it with steam technology to create this. Its combat performance is impressive, capable of smashing demons into pulp with just its fists, but it's too cumbersome. So, we developed it further for several years, eventually creating the first true generation of ancient-era sacred armor."
As Tesla finished speaking, the researchers plugged cables of various colors into the rear of the ancient-era sacred armor, seemingly to control it externally.
"Although we've iterated through several versions, the core structure of the ancient-era sacred armor hasn't changed. We call it the central framework."
Electricity surged along the cables, and the ancient-era sacred armor shuddered slightly, like a long-sealed door being forced open. The creature inside began to stir, crashing against the door, dislodging dust and metal fragments. Everyone heard the gradually roaring steam engine.
More than that, as if awakening, Lloyd saw dark red flesh slowly growing within the gaps of the armor, clenching the metal plates tightly like muscles between bones.
"Shall we continue?"
The researchers, controlling the awakening, asked.
"Continue. Let our test drivers see clearly what beast they are to tame. Besides, Mr. Holmes is still here."
Tesla said, looking at Lloyd with interest.
Like comparing one's child to another, Tesla was curious who would prevail if the ancient-era sacred armor clashed with a demon hunter. Would it be the crystallized wisdom of modern technology or the stubborn faith of a bygone era? For now, he had no chance to witness this. Conventional force was manageable, but involving demons made things eerie and dangerous.
Experimentation, in essence, is about controlling danger as much as possible, yet demons cannot be truly controlled, only temporarily restrained, and ultimately fated to break free.
Lloyd ignored Tesla's gaze, focusing instead on the gradually awakening armor. The plates slightly parted, revealing dark red tissue writhing slowly inside. Sparks flickered within mechanical crevices, and hot steam escaped from exhaust vents.
A thin mist enveloped it, making its gray silhouette resemble a death knight from the River Styx.
"Behold, the central framework."
It seemed the sacred armor had been prepared from the start. Concealing plates lifted one by one, revealing the core's silver skeleton. The entire chest opened up like a monster's gaping maw, exposing a brass-colored metal lining and dangling cables.
"You can consider the central framework the skeleton of the sacred armor, one of its driving cores."
Tesla pointed to the silver skeleton, where demon flesh was crawling along, gripping it and other metal structures tightly.
