The clashing of steel rang out, creating a sense of life within the perpetual motion pump. The heavy and complex mechanical structure seemed like a living being, its organs made of machinery, with electric currents flowing through metal conduits like blood.

The boy lifted his head, staring at the metallic ceiling above. Perhaps everyone who wakes up from a hospital bed shares this common experience: upon awakening, they see no concerned eyes or celebratory confetti, just the monotony of the ceiling.

"You look pretty good, kid. The God Armor protected you; otherwise, you might never have woken up."

The doctor, seeing him awake, examined his body and filled him in on what had happened during his coma. The boy remained silent, staring blankly at the ceiling, lost in his own world.

The doctor, seemingly used to this, didn't mind the boy's lack of response. He continued his work, placing new medications on the bedside table. The room was custom-made, meant solely for the boy. It was his alone.

As the doctor left, the room fell silent once again. Perhaps due to the medication, the boy felt incredibly sleepy but didn't want to succumb to sleep. His lower body was numb, and he tried to sit up using his hands, but the lingering pain in his body made it impossible.

"Hey, Ovis, I'm really glad to see you awake."

The door suddenly opened again, and Merlin walked in cheerfully. Despite the almost dead look on his face, his smile had a slightly eerie quality.

Merlin walked to the bed and helped Ovis sit up. He looked very young, almost like a teenager.

"How are you feeling this time? Any nightmares?"

Merlin wasn't bothered by Ovis's cold demeanor; he was used to it and continued to ask with concern.

"Yes, but they're very vague."

Ovis finally spoke, his voice calm. Falling unconscious inside the God Armor was extremely dangerous. The demonic power continued to erode the pilot, and in a state of unconsciousness, the pilot's will was utterly defenseless, accelerating the erosion.

It had been a long time since Ovis had fallen unconscious inside the God Armor, but this time he had suffered severe trauma. Surviving was a stroke of luck.

"What exactly did you see?"

Merlin asked, as if conducting some kind of research.

"Very vague... You know people can't fully record their dreams. I only saw a nebulous gray and heard obscure sounds... Why are you asking about this?"

Ovis looked at Merlin, who usually didn't inquire about such things. Dreams were a peculiar phenomenon. Typically, you couldn't recall how you arrived in a dream. That strange world was incredibly chaotic, but it felt like another force was hinting at you. Even if it defied the laws of physics, your brain accepted it as normal.

"We have a new test pilot. You've met him, Mr. Lloyd Holmes. Honestly, I'm also uneasy about a demon hunter testing out the Old Century God Armor."

"Every knight's first time piloting the God Armor is fraught with great risk."

"Everyone's first time piloting is full of risks."

Merlin voiced his concern, pausing for a long while before speaking again.

"You should remember me telling you about 'the connection,' right? The more you interact with demons and endure their erosion, the more you can sense something indescribable."

"The connection?"

Merlin nodded and continued.

"I also asked Mr. Holmes. He described that eerie feeling as a connection with the darkness... like diving into a deep blue sea, the deeper you go, the more you feel its vastness and terror."
