"Can I cut to the chase?" Looking down the barrel pointed at him, Lloyd seemed somewhat accustomed to being targeted by now.

"The train can only stay for fifteen minutes. After unloading, it has to leave. I have to leave with it, or those guards will catch up to me sooner or later."

Lloyd had made all the preparations before coming here, down to the last detail.

In theory, Lloyd's personal appearance here posed extreme risks. But for his purpose, he needed to confirm Eve's identity firsthand. Now, it seemed like everything was worth it.

"Wouldn't that be better? If I bring you to the Sualan Hall, the sheriff will believe everything I say."

Lloyd was the root of the chaos that day, and this detective could be as fierce as a veteran soldier when provoked.

"Wouldn't that be boring?"

Lloyd didn't mind. He was a cautious person, and he had made thorough preparations before coming here.

"I'm a detective, Miss Eve. Wouldn't solving a major case be more to your liking than being a suspected criminal? "

Staring intently into the detective's eyes, Eve pondered. She had thought a lot since she first saw Lloyd. From that moment, the detective exuded an aura of control, both terrifying and trustworthy.

"I'll give you five minutes, Detective."

Eve holstered her gun and looked away, pacing back and forth. She seemed to enjoy the playacting with Lloyd, who, in turn, casually constructed branches with the ladder.

From afar, the princess of the Phoenix family was admiring the scenery on the Golden Road. The only thing slightly out of place was the gardener now working beside her.

"Eve Phoenix, you're born to nobility. As long as your father agrees, you'll become the next noble Phoenix Duchess. Forget the Sualan Hall, even the Royal Guard isn't worthy of you. Yet here you are, secretly working as a detective."

Trimming the branches, Lloyd began describing Eve based on his perception.

"Is it for your father? Or is it for the honor of the Phoenix family... Well, your family's exploits run through the entire Glorious War. The halls of the Platinum Palace are filled with portraits of your ancestors. You grew up listening to their legends, yearning to become like them, right?"

"What are you trying to say?"

Eve's expression soured. She had also noticed one annoying aspect of Lloyd. His gaze was too sharp, sharp enough to easily see through a person.

Each person was made up of labeled fragments. Piecing them together, one could construct a person's entire life from the diverted glances.

Lloyd continued.

"I think we can cooperate, Miss Eve."

"The Glorious War is over. After we permanently expelled the Gaulunaro people back to the White Tide Strait, there's no battlefield where you can achieve the same glory as your ancestors. Your only way out is the Sualan Hall. But now, the Sualan Hall has granted you a long vacation."

The gray-blue eyes reflected the golden fallen leaves.

"Your career hasn't even begun, and it's about to end. But I can offer you a turning point, as long as we cooperate."

Eve stared coldly at him, her fair fingers poised on the trigger.

"How can I trust you?"

"How about this?"
