Like countless mosquitoes buzzing in your ears, that piercing and irritable sound consumed Eve's calmness. Anxiety, panic, and fear were all negative emotions trying to engulf her rationality.
Eve wanted to scream, but she was being dragged by Lloyd. At this moment, this lunatic scumbag gave her an indescribable sense of reliability. His hand holding Eve was maintaining her last shred of sanity.
The two of them ran desperately in the dark tunnel, but it seemed endless, with no end in sight. And although the tide of death had disappeared, the whispered warnings echoing in the darkness kept reminding them that it was still in relentless pursuit.
"Don't be afraid. That thing can't catch up to us!" It seemed like Lloyd suddenly spoke to comfort the girl.
"A group of human conglomerates, although that thing defies logic, it still follows some degree of reality. For example, if it's too fat, it can't run fast, or if it's too big, it can't squeeze through." With that, he picked up Eve as if to comfort her like a child, and Eve, who was completely frightened, looked like a doll being played with.
The path was higher than normal, hidden in the darkness, but under crisis, senses became sharper. Without thinking, Lloyd threw Eve up, then followed suit, flipping in himself.
This was the palace's secret passage. With Sabo's vigilance, this place must be crisscrossed with passages, and maybe one of them led to a hidden exit. If it weren't for those strange monsters, Lloyd would have had time to try each one. But now, he could only rely on luck.
He really hoped that Lady Luck was still on his side.
Fear and death followed the two closely. Eve couldn't understand why this detective could remain calm in this situation, why he didn't feel afraid?
The extraordinary calmness and perseverance far beyond ordinary people. Thinking carefully, aside from this man's terrible personality, he was simply an invincible genius, both in cunning schemes and swordsmanship, crushing ordinary people.
Just as Eve was about to ask, she felt Lloyd tightly gripping her hand trembling slightly. Although very faint, Eve clearly felt it.
He was also afraid. This damned detective was actually afraid. But Eve knew he was different from herself. He was forcing himself to remain calm. Only in this way could they survive.
As for death? Lloyd didn't care about that kind of thing. He was the kind of lunatic who, even when Death came knocking at the door, would still dare to pull out his Winchester and shoot at the door.
Lloyd had to survive. He absolutely had to survive. He had come to Old Dunling, and that beautiful new life was in his hands. He could feed pigeons in the square with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, or ride on the steam train around the entire mechanical city.
No one could take away his life, not even the monsters dug up from his own memories.
"Don't worry, fear is normal. That thing will oppress your mind, forcing you to have all kinds of negative emotions. Once you succumb, you'll become a puppet of fear!" Lloyd explained to Eve as if he had faced such things before.
Enjoying the taste of tobacco deeply, in the darkness, Eve could only see the glowing ember of the cigarette butt and smell the lingering smoke on her nose.
Eve couldn't see Lloyd's face clearly, but she could feel another strange emotion rising.
"We need to get out of here quickly. If possible, we need to inform the Sualan Hall that's coming to rescue us. Ordinary people facing that thing are just walking to their deaths."
The voice was calm, but beneath that calmness lay anger and self-blame.
It was Lloyd's fault. When he saw the body of Vol transformed, he should have realized the problem. Vol, for some reason, had started to mutate towards the direction of the monsters at that time. It was just that Lloyd killed him in time before he fully transformed.
