Every inch of flesh stretched to its fullest, with pain and familiar power surging back into Arthur's body. His eyes turned vicious.
Before Nine Summers brought the divine armor technology, the Purging Mechanism had already been secretly established to counter the pressure of the Demon Hunter Guild. But back then, steam technology alone couldn't decisively kill the demons. In their desperate times, the Grandmaster of the Perpetual Pump, Florand, developed a body-enhancement serum by combining alchemy and demon characteristics. The narcissistic grandmaster named it after himself, laying the foundation for the Purging Mechanism's Ranger Project.
Unlike the Secret Blood, Florand's serum primarily fortified the mind against demonic corruption, allowing rangers to remain conscious before demons. The berserk power it granted was merely a side effect, originating from the human body itself. Under the serum's influence, it ignited potential life force, much like a stimulant burning life itself.
Mystical power invigorated Arthur's body, making it feel youthful again.
Long ago, using Florand's serum came with immense risks. This power was a double-edged sword, bringing strength but also great danger. Many rangers died from heart failure during its use. The Perpetual Pump conducted extensive adjustments, finally engraving modifications onto the human body. Arthur was among the last batch of rangers to undergo these enhancements. Their emergence allowed the Purging Mechanism to survive its darkest period, leading to the advent of the Divine Armor era.
Arthur's contemporaries were likely all dead; he was the last remaining ranger. Afterward, he retreated into the shadows, and the Ranger Project shifted focus to supporting the old world's divine armor due to the extreme risks involved. Florand's serum deteriorated over time, becoming merely a mental enhancer to aid knights in adapting to demonic corruption within their armors.
Now, the knights capable of fighting demons in the Purging Mechanism underwent "specialization"—essentially a relic of the ranger technology, strengthening ordinary minds to face demons.
"Are you a super soldier?" someone asked.
"Not anymore, but what are you waiting for, Lloyd?" Arthur roared, then stepped back instead of attacking, glancing sideways at Lloyd. His body trembled slightly.
The man before him was at his limit. Despite being super soldiers, their bodies were still human, especially since their primary enhancement was mental. Arthur was severely injured, enduring only through sheer willpower. He should have collapsed but refused to fall before Eve.
A new round of slaughter began. Arthur coldly watched Pastor Lawrence. The iron cavalry beside him charged forward; there was no holding back now—they could fight with all their might.
Pastor Lawrence seemed unprepared for this turn of events. He now had only one path left.
"Looking forward to our next meeting," Pastor Lawrence smiled as the silent night erupted again. Countless wails echoed; the demonic tide surged once more.
Impossible!
Lloyd stared in shock, sensing demonic corruption everywhere—innumerable as the sands of the sea.
How did he do it? Commanding so many demons...
Ed!
The deceased Michael demon hunter in End Town had the power to command demons too.
"The so-called Holy Casket is in your hands, isn't it?" Lloyd's voice turned icy, colder than ever.
He knew what lay within that Holy Casket—the remnants of a Messiah-class containment object.
