As I wandered aimlessly through the circus, my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.

Each step felt heavy, weighed down by the burden of my own thoughts.

I kept my gaze fixed on the ground, not wanting to face the vibrant colors and chaotic energy that surrounded me.

Lost in my own world, I was abruptly jolted back to reality when I collided with something—or rather, someone.

The impact sent me sprawling to the ground, the wind knocked out of me.

"Ugh, jeez, watch it," I muttered irritably as I looked up and realized it was Jax standing over me.

He seemed... embarrassed? It was a rare sight to see him anything other than cocky and self-assured.

He crossed his arms and let out a defeated sigh before speaking.

"Look. I was thinking about what you said earlier and... I just wanted to say that, you have a point, and that you're right... I'm sorry I was such a jacka#$ to you."

I stared at him in disbelief, unable to process his words. Did he just apologize?

Before I could respond, he quickly added, "Yeah, I know it's a shock, don't read into it okay dude," his usual ego returning in an instant.

He extended his hand to help me up, but I brushed it off, choosing to stand on my own.

As he walked past me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me.

"Thanks," I called after him, my voice barely above a whisper. He glanced back at me, nodding slightly before continuing on his way.

Taking a deep breath, I continued my solitary journey, thinking over Jax's unexpected apology.

It was a small gesture, but it meant more to me than I cared to admit.

Lost in my thoughts, I found myself smiling for the first time in what felt like ages.

But before I could fully savor the moment of peace, Jax's voice interrupted me.

"Hey, wait up," he called out, jogging to catch up with me.

"I, uh, just wanted to say... I know I can be a real pain in the ass sometimes, but I actually kinda admire how you always stand up for yourself. Not many people have the guts to do that."

I raised an eyebrow, surprised by his sincerity. "Are you feeling okay, Jax? Did you hit your head or something?"

He chuckled, a rare genuine smile gracing his lips.

"Nah, I'm serious. You're pretty bada#$, you know that?"

I couldn't help but smile back, feeling a warmth spread through me at his unexpected compliment.

Maybe there was more to Jax than met the eye.

"Thanks, I guess," I replied, feeling a bit awkward but appreciative nonetheless.

We walked in companionable silence for a while, the tension between us easing with each step.

It was a strange feeling, being on somewhat mutual terms with Jax after all the animosity between us.

As we reached a junction in the circus, Jax hesitated, glancing around uncertainly.

"So, uh, where are you headed?"

I shrugged, realizing I didn't have a destination in mind.

"Nowhere in particular. Just trying to clear my head, I guess."

He nodded, understanding in his eyes. "Yeah, I get that. Mind if I join you?"

I hesitated, surprised by his offer but ultimately nodding in agreement. "Sure, why not?"

I realized something remarkable—I had gone an unusually long time without being interrupted by one of Caine's ridiculous games.

A smile crept onto my face as I relished the peace, feeling a weight lifted off my shoulders for the first time in what felt like forever.

It was a fleeting moment of calm, but one I cherished nonetheless.

However, just as quickly as the sense of calm washed over me, it was shattered by a sudden sensation of disorientation.

Without warning, I was engulfed in a blinding light, my surroundings shifting and warping around me.
