~✮Y/N's Perspective✮~
Back at the circus, the neon lights flicker sporadically, casting eerie, shifting shadows across the vibrant tents and twisted attractions.
The bustling energy of the haunted city is replaced by an unsettling quiet.
The atmosphere is tense, with a thick fog rolling in, adding to the already oppressive sense of dread.
As we arrive, I feel the weight of what just happened with Jax settling heavily on my chest.
The kiss, the tension—it's all too much. I glance over at him, but he's already turned away, his posture rigid, hands shoved deep into his pockets.
"Welcome back!" Caine's voice echoes through the circus, breaking the silence. "How was the haunted city? Did you enjoy the ghostly surprises?"
No one responds. The usual banter is replaced by awkward silence.
Zooble looks like they want to say something, but they just shake their head and walk away, muttering under their breath.
Pomni and Ragatha exchange a worried glance, while Kinger mumbles something about spiders before scurrying off.
Even Gangle, usually so chatty, just stands there, staring at the ground.I start to move, hoping to escape to my tent and clear my head, but Jax steps in front of me, blocking my path.
His eyes are a storm of confusion and frustration, and I can feel the anger bubbling beneath the surface.
I half-expect him to start yelling again, to continue the argument we never finished.
But instead, he just looks at me, his expression hard to read.
For a moment, neither of us says anything. The silence between us stretches on, thick and uncomfortable.
Finally, Jax opens his mouth, but before he can say anything, I shake my head and push past him, not trusting myself to speak.
The last thing I want is another confrontation, not after everything that's happened.
"Y/N," he calls after me, but I don't stop. I can't.
I make my way to my safe space, my heart pounding in my chest.
The colourful fabric flutters in the breeze as I pull back the entrance flap, stepping into the dim, familiar space.
I collapse onto the padded floor, burying my face in my hands.
What just happened back there? One moment we were at each other's throats, and the next, we were...kissing?
The memory of his lips on mine sends a shiver down my spine, but I quickly push it away, trying to focus on anything else.
The circus outside buzzes with activity, the usual chaotic energy of the members preparing for the next episode.
But I'm too distracted to pay attention. My thoughts are consumed with Jax, with the argument, and with everything that's been left unsaid.
A soft knock on the tent pole startles me. I look up to see Ragatha peeking in, her eyes full of concern."Hey," she says softly, stepping inside. "You okay?"
I force a smile, but it doesn't reach my eyes. "Yeah, I'm fine," I lie, trying to sound convincing. "Just...tired."
She doesn't look convinced, but she doesn't press the issue either.
Instead, she sits down beside me, offering a small, comforting smile. "You know, whatever's going on with you and Jax... it's okay to take a step back. We're all here for you, no matter what."
Her words are meant to be reassuring, but they only make me feel more confused.
How can I explain what's going on when I don't even understand it myself?
"Thanks, Ragatha," I say quietly, appreciating her concern even if I don't feel any better. "I just need some time to think."
She nods, giving my hand a gentle squeeze before standing up. "Take all the time you need," she says softly before leaving the tent.
As the flap falls shut behind her, I'm left alone with my thoughts once again.
The circus continues to hum with life outside, but it feels distant, like it's happening in another world.
I lie back on the bed, staring up at the colorful fabric of the tent ceiling.
My mind races, replaying everything that happened with Jax over and over again.
The argument, the kiss, the way he looked at me afterward—it's all a jumbled mess that I can't seem to untangle.
Eventually, exhaustion starts to take over.
My eyes grow heavy, and before I know it, I'm drifting off to sleep, my thoughts still swirling with confusion and uncertainty.
But even in sleep, there's no escape.
My dreams are filled with flashes of neon lights, the haunted city, and Jax's face, his expression a mix of anger and something else—something I can't quite understand.
The kiss lingers in my mind, a reminder of everything that's changed, and of everything that's yet to come.
