Author's POV

Ahana found herself seated in the back of the car next to her elder sister-in-law, while her younger sister-in-law occupied the front seat alongside the driver. The journey was silent but inside Ahana was having their mockery voices still echoing. Her life took an unexpected turn as the car through large gets inside the boundaries of an opulent palace. Inquisitively,

Ahana's younger sister-in-law, Kavita, blurted out, "Is she really going to marry a king?"

The question lingered in the air as the elder sister-in-law, deep in contemplation, gestured for the driver to open the door. While Ahana with her head bowed, ignores the drama unfolding.

Her mind and heart were still heavy with the weight of those taunts and tears welled up in her eyes were threatening rolls down. She hesitated to lift her gaze, feeling like a mere inconvenience to those who sought to rid themselves of her presence. As they entered the grand palace, they were welcomed with an extravagant display-a cascade of flowers and a carpet of rose petals.

Progressing further, a gentle shower of perfume enveloped them, causing both sisters-in-law to look at each other with envy, their faces turning green with jealousy. While the sensory spectacle only deepened Ahana's internal turmoil as she contemplates what life is about to serve her now.

Their animosity towards Ahana escalated, and with a cruel intent, both sisters-in-law tightly clutched her hand, causing her visible pain. Cutting remarks followed, "Don't delude yourself into thinking that marrying into this palace means you can abandon your class, status, and manners which is nothing but trash", Ashmita sneered.

"It's their misfortune that they're stuck with a girl of such low standards," Kavita mocked.

Ahana gasps at their comments while they smirked at her hurt look on face and passed the family a twisted smile. As reluctantly, they pulled Ahana together who was too bashed by their words.

Watching her come close, Ahana's father coldly directed, "Take her to the stage and make her sit. I can't bear to have her sight. Just get her married so we all can get rid of this trouble." The sisters-in-laws found fun in the situation, sharing a silent laugh, while Ahana's tears streamed down which she was holding on for a long time now.

How can he even say that? Get rid?? Really? Am I not his daughter but some useless object?

Raising her eyes, Ahana looked at her father through her tear-filled eyes with a hurtful look on her face, but he averted his gaze. With a heavy heart she tries to say something when he cuts her and says, "Go pl-eas-e!"

Her heart swells with the volcano of pain but she gulps it hard and walks to the stage alone, bearing the weight of her wounded heart.

"Is that man really my father? Because the one I knew used to always say that I'm not a burden but his pride, his treasure. And he would never let me go away from him." Recalling that moment few more tears rolled down her eyes but before anyone sees she wipes it off.

"Maybe the sin I did was too big to be disowned", she murmurs to herself as she sniffs.

As the guests gradually arrived, Ahana remained seated, her head bowed, attempting to hold back the tears that welled up in her eyes. Her struggle to conceal her emotions was evident.
