XAIDEN

Sitting in the waiting room, my leg won't stop bouncing up and down. The twins are sitting next to Adrienne and we have been waiting for the past 2 hours for the doctors to come out. As time passes by, I'm becoming more and more anxious. I can't stop recalling what happened earlier.

Suddenly, I was pushed to the floor as a loud gunshot echoed through the surroundings. The twins screamed in fright.

"Are you ok?" Ms. Valeria asked, locking her eyes with mine. I couldn't look away from her deep blue eyes, so deep and blue. When I realized that I was staring for too long, I cleared my throat, "Yes. Can you please move?"

My hands grabbed her waist to help her stand up when I felt something wet trickling down my hand. I brought my hand up to see red blood, and then she fainted right then and there. I just kept staring at the flowing blood on my hand, flashes of  Felix kept creeping up my mind. Blood spilling everywhere, Felix dead looking eyes, his cold body. I was in a daze, that memory kept replaying in my head like a movie.

"Oh my God!" I heard Adrienne's voice, snapping me out of that horrible scene.

"Call the ambulance, she got shot," I yelled at Adrienne and she nodded while I gently flipped her so that she could lay on the floor. I placed my hand on her rib where she was shot and pressed on the injury to reduce the blood loss. Apart from that, I couldn't do anything else. I was helpless, just like back then when Felix died.

"When will the ambulance arrive?" I asked Adrienne in panic. The twins were crying as they stared at the blood. They would surely be traumatized after this. Seconds later, I saw the lights of the ambulance and they parked right in front of the orphanage. The nurses came out and they brought the stretcher. I was pushed back while they started doing their work. They loaded her in the ambulance and only one person was allowed to ride with them to the hospital.

"Adrienne, go with them. I will bring the twins."

She looked at me as if wanting some reassurance and I nodded at her. She's closer with Ms. Valeria than me so she deserved to be in there. Even though the twins are more related to Ms. Valeria, they both can't ride in there, so it's best for them to come with me. She entered the ambulance and they left. After washing off the blood from my hands, I brought the twins with me to the hospital, following closely behind the ambulance.

That's how we ended up here. I can't believe he would do something like that at an orphanage. I knew he wanted me gone but I didn't expect him to try to assassinate me at such a place. And I should've been more careful and now, because of me, an innocent person got injured.

The doors open and the doctor comes out. Adrienne immediately starts questioning him, "How is she? Will she be fine?"

"She is fine now. Thankfully, the bullet didn't hit any important organ and the operation went smoothly so she will recover in a few days," The doctor answers.

"Thank God!" Adrienne praises and sighs in relief.

"Can we see her now?" Maïra asks, her voice is hoarse due to crying so much and her cheeks are puffy. Same for Mira.

"She hasn't woken up yet but you can visit her. If you need help, press the little red button and a nurse will be at your service. Excuse me, I have other patientsto check up on," The doctor replies then leaves to go take care of his other patients.

Holding the hands of the twins, Adrienne goes into Ms. Valeria's room, and I watch them through the window. I don't feel like I have the right to enter that room when I'm the cause of all this. Because of me, their sisters almost died, and I don't think I would've ever forgiven myself if she actually did. This time, William took things too far, so I need to put my plans into action now.
