it was the day of Mika's funeral, Gabby decided to finally sober up just for this day only, but kept a bottle in her bag just in case. Gabby was standing outside the church, her heart heavy and her mind chaotic. She couldn't shake off the guilt and pain that had consumed her for months. The bottle of alcohol in her bag seemed like a lifeline, a temporary escape from the reality she was facing. She felt torn, wanting to honor Mika's memory but struggling with her own demons.
Friends and family were slowly arriving, their faces filled with sorrow and grief. Gabby's eyes were red and puffy from crying, but she tried to put on a brave face for the sake of her children. The guilt and shame she carried weighed heavily on her conscience, making it difficult to focus on the present moment. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves and find a sense of peace amidst the chaos.
Music starts to play, and everyone sits there in silence as Gabby coughs. Clutching onto Fatboy's hand for support. The music echoes softly through the church, a somber background to the mournful occasion. Gabby sits silently, her hand tightly clutching Fatboy's. She glances around the room, taking in the sight of friends, family, and acquaintances gathered together to honor the memory of Mika. Tears well up in her eyes, and she struggles to keep her emotions in check. The weight of guilt and grief hangs heavily over her, making it difficult to focus on the ceremony unfolding.
The priest begins the service, his voice filled with sadness and compassion. He offers words of comfort and hope, but for Gabby, they barely register amidst the overwhelming guilt and grief that consume her. She squeezes Fatboy's hand tighter, finding a small measure of strength in his presence. As she looks around the room, she notices Jase stood in the back, watching on as his brother stands next to him.
Gabby sighs as she gets up, seemingly making eye contact with Jase. She takes a deep breath and stares down at a piece of paper, her hands shaking underneath it as she attempted to regain composure.
"Mika was a precious soul who left us too soon," Gabby began, her voice cracking with emotions. "She brought light, laughter, and love into our lives, and her absence has left a gaping hole in our hearts." She struggled to continue, the lump in her throat growing larger with each word. "Mika will be forever remembered as a bright, shining star, whose warmth and kindness touched us all." Her voice trailed off, and she took a moment to compose herself before continuing.
"To know Mika was to love her," Gabby continued, tears streaming down her face. "She was a gift, a blessing to those who were lucky enough to know her." She paused, her gaze drifting over the faces of the mourners in the congregation, each filled with sadness and grief. "We will honor her memory by carrying her love and light within us always." With that, Gabby slowly sat down, tears still streaming down her cheeks.
Music began to play again as Fatboy, Keith and Norman both got out of their seats and began to move Mika's small pink coffin from where it was originally sat. Gabby and Joanne followed from behind, Gabby still clutching onto her bag.
The somber music filled the church as Fatboy, Keith, and Norman moved Mika's coffin, the weight of the moment palpable in the air. Following closely behind were Gabby and Joanne, their hearts aching with grief. Gabby held onto her bag, clutching it tightly, as if holding onto a lifeline. The sight of Mika's tiny, pink coffin being moved was heartbreaking, a stark reminder of the innocent life that had been taken too soon.
Gabby suddenly felt an arm clutch onto her as Mika's coffin leaves the church and towards her grave. Startled, she turned to see who had grabbed her. It was none other than Jase, his expression filled with a mixture of grief and guilt. Without a word, he gently led her away from the funeral proceedings, seeking a quiet moment away from the prying eyes and judging stares of the mourners. Their path led to a small, secluded garden nearby, where they found themselves alone.
