"you're making a lot of food."
i turned around to see my mother standing near the entrance to the kitchen, holding her phone in one hand. she stared at the food i was packing, and the 2 bento boxes which i sat on the counter, preparing to fill them with the quick meal i'd cooked. i nodded hesitantly, before returning to what i was doing before.
"uhm... i've been getting a bigger appetite lately. 1 bento isn't enough..."
i could feel her doubtful gaze set on me as i shakily fixed the bento's.
"then don't let anything go to waste. food is not cheap nowadays as it used to be."
"i won't..."
i sighed in relief when i heard her footsteps leave the kitchen.
i knew if i told her the truth, she'd get very frustrated and angry at me that i'd waste our money and food on strangers when it could've been saved instead. but i had promised nagi that one time, and i wanted to repay him for his kindness. one bento wasn't near enough to repay what he did for me. it's really the least i can do.
i really hope it's good... when i cook something, it's only natural that i find it good since i went through all the trouble making it, but what if it doesn't really taste all that good in reality? i would be embarrassing myself so much... he'd probably get awkward with me too. gosh, just the thought of it makes me want to dump all the food in a trashcan and cry myself to sleep.
nevertheless, i still left home, with my backpack feeling a bit heavier than usual due to the extra bento box i packed. the change was not that drastic, so i ignored the slight ache in my shoulder and went on my merry way.
when i reached the gate, i saw the boys waiting there as usual. i wondered if it was a common practice for them to wait for each other that way, but i'd never know since i'm the one arriving last. the boys stood out a lot among the other students trying to get to school due to their height, but also bachira's loud voice.
i quickly rushed over, "g-goodmorning... sorry that i took a while..." i panted out, holding my bag tightly with both hands. the weight was not such a drastic change, though it quickly grew more noticeable when i began running. my stamina was not the best and the extra bento made it a bit more difficult. the boys turned to me and their expressions lit up.
"hey! and no worries. chigiri just arrived as well." isagi smiled, pointing at the red haired boy who gave a short wave.
"morning, n/n! we've got awesome news!!" bachira exclaimed loudly, jumping over to me from reo's side. the purple haired boy nodded with a grin and slung his bag over his shoulder. "we finally got a match against another school. it'll be in a few weeks. wanna be our little cheerleader?"
"with this... we'll be one step closer to announcing our names to japan, and soon the world." isagi spoke, nodding.
my lips curved into a smile and i nodded. "i'm so happy for you! i can't wait to watch."
"moooornin'..." nagi yawned, popping up from behind isagi. he wiped his eye tiredly, before looking down at his phone. "hey, class should be startin' soon..." he mumbled, making the boys jump in surprise.
"oh! i completely forgot! alright, see you guys later!" reo stressed, before dragging me and nagi off with him. i waved at the three boys we'd left behind and with that we entered the building.

i sat on my chair and quietly doodled in my notebook about random things that first popped into mind. the boys had left to purchase some drinks from the vending machines and offered to bring me something along with them. initially, i declined, but reo reassured me that i wouldn't owe him any money and that he had plenty to share with his friends. i kind of envied him... it must be nice not to live in a household with parents that constantly argue over money, because for my parents, that's the main source to their arguments.
