"are you doing anything after school?"

i turned to look at isagi, who shot me a bashful smile. reo and nagi were bickering in the back, it was their typical issue of reo trying to force nagi to do something productive and nagi not being enthusiastic at all. bachira and chigiri were watching the two, one cheering them on while the other could only sigh in disappointment at his friend's immaturity.

i fiddled with my skirt nervously. "um... no... i was gonna go home early..." i mumbled, hoping that my voice was not as shaky as it sounded to me. i knew it would take me a while to warm up to the boys, but it's so embarrassing to stutter so much and to appear so fearful of them. i wonder how long it'll be till they're tired of me.

i'm so not good with boys... i don't know why i thought this was a good idea. any other girl would've probably responded in a way more charismatic and outgoing manner.

"you should hang out with us then. we'll be practicing in the field! we've got a couple matches against some other schools coming up soon." he suggested, and i couldn't help a smile from forming. i didn't think he'd want to invite me. i gave a quick nod, and he seemed satisfied with that.

"also, you don't need to be nervous around us."

i turned to look at him in surprise, and he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly.

"uh- well, none of the guys, except maybe reo, have experience with girls. they're very weird... but they want you to feel comfortable more than anything. there's nothing to be nervous about... so yeah."

my cheeks warmed up, and so did his. i couldn't think of a proper answer to give him. should i thank him? would that be weird? maybe i should deny being nervous... but then i'd be outright lying to him, won't i? but i don't want them to think i'm scared of them or something. maybe it's too late for that though... i bet they already know...  oh god i must seem like such a pathetic idiot right now.

"hey, hey! back off nagi's girlfriend, isagi. where's the bro-code?" reo said, jumping in the conversation and pulling along a white haired boy who seemed to want nothing more than to sleep. nagi pushed reo's face, making him let go of his shoulder.

"huh? nagi's girlfriend?!" isagi asked, jumping in surprise and my face only warmed up further. reo let out a laugh while nagi sighed in annoyance. "we aren't dating, dumbass."

"he's such a liar." reo said, continuing his teasing. bachira decided to join in upon seeing an opportunity to tease his usually monotone friend. "you can't lie to your closest friends, nagi!" he grinned, bumping his fist with reo's. "tell 'im."

i didn't know what to do so i just froze and watched as they bickered back and forth. chigiri and isagi sighed from beside me.

"they're so dumb." chigiri deadpanned, running a hand through his pretty red hair.

"ahaha... yeah... i wonder how they've even survived for so long." isagi said.

"don't worry about them, l/n. they're just joking." chigiri said, smiling down at me. i nodded shyly, still not trusting my voice to cooperate with me. his cheeks warmed up and he brought a hand to ruffle my hair. i froze in surprise, watching as he let out a carefree laugh. "you're cute. i can't help but feel you're unlucky for making idiot friends like this."

i quickly shook my head at his words, making him remove his hand.

"n-no... um..  i like you guys." i mumbled, fiddling with the sleeves to my cardigan.
